<update> I may have bettered the previous best quote (A-Plan) by £100 http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif .
I called Frizzells (0800-122000) asking if they would quote on a Jap import legacy GTB. They didn’t have that model on their list (but had the Legacy B4 RSK), the operator spoke to her boss who said "base the quote on an import Impreza WRX (same insurance group) – we’ll have the GTB on the system tomorrow".

Quote came in at £789.94
Details:
Underwritten by Liverpool & Victoria
£500 excess
Garaged
Protected NCB
No need for any form of protection/alarm!!!

If that quote holds by the time they get the GTB on their system, then I think it’s very unlikely I’ll find anything cheaper.

Folks,

I’m buying a Subaru Legacy GT-B (“grey” jap import - 2.0 liter twin turbo) and have started the good old insurance trawl. My best quote to date has been from A-Plan, and I just wondered if there are any other brokers worth trying. If you know of any please let me know.

So far here’s who I have got quotes from (might gives others an idea of who to call):

Those that require a Cat1 alarm only:
A-Plan (£885 , £500 excess, protected NCB)
Bell Direct (£999 , £500 excess, can’t remember if NCB is protected)
Adrian Flux (£1167, £500 excess, no NCB protection)
Admiral (£1286, £??? excess, protected NCB)
Keith Michaels (£1132, can’t remember excess or NCB details)
Footman James (£1430, excess???, protect NCB)

Those that require Cat1 and some form of tracking device:
Direct Line (£981 , £500 excess, protected NCB)
Tescos (£998 , £350 excess, protected NCB)
Privilege (£1035, excess???, protected NCB)
Randal Pace (£1269, must be a “satellite Tracker”!, excess???, no NCB protection)

Those that won’t quote:
Bennets Direct - Won’t insure Japanese Imports
Catterall - Won’t insure Japanese Imports (but will do New Zealand!)

Cheers,
Colin.

P.S.
Those figures are based on:
Me – 36, full/protected NCB, one claim 18 months ago for £700 repair
Wife – 31, SP30
Vehicle value – £20K
Car garaged overnight
Edinburgh postcode

Colin

After looking for ages for a manual twin-turbo at the right price I now have one on its way from Japan. I presently have a UK turbo insured through Direct Line (last premium circa £320)- their estimate for next year on this is circa £400 and a GT-B would be approx £700 but needs a Tracker. I did an online check with Quoteline Direct yesterday and their 'quick' quotes were UK Turbo £451 (no immob)/ Legacy GT (no immob) £444 / Legacy GT (factory immob) £421 / Legacy GT (cat 1)£398 / Legacy GT-B (only accept Cat 1)£725.

After being worried about the likely cost I'm chuffed that it's a GT I've bought and it could be the cheapest to insure.....!! Mind you, the later GT-B's are supposedly lots quicker.

Maybe they've made a mistake but please don't bring it to their attention until I renew....!!

I would suggest talking to Rum* (Tom Butler) at Schofields, or InsBro (Jeremey Pace) at Randall Pace. They are both brokers, both on scoobynet, both have and love scoobies. Plus they are united in setting up a scheme to cover scoobs, be they UK, grey, or modified. As to which you ring, well that's up to you. You'll get the same quote from both of them.

Tom's number is: 0113 250 0377

Jeremey's number is: 01782 286311

hope they can help you out.
