It's time for the annual day on the phone ringing round for quotes, and something just doesn't seem quite right about the figures I'm being quoted compared to those that other people seem to get http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

I'm 26, full NCB, trying to get cover on a UK model MY00 with PPP and PIAAs (gosh, how many acronyms?!) A bus reversed into my car two years ago (settled by their insurers) and I had a stone through my windscreen last month. Requested comprehensive cover with protected NCB.

Quotes I've had so far:
Adrian Flux: 'about £1500'
RAC: £1123 (with £175 xs, no charge for PPP!)
Frizzell: £1306
Admiral: Transferred me to...
Hyperformance: ...who transferred me to...
Hastings: ...who wouldn't quote!
Bell Direct: 'uncompetitive'
Privilege: £1095 (with £500 xs, £1220 with £250 xs)

All these figueres seem a bit extreme, although the RAC is looking like quite a good bet (Thanks Jack-S for pointing that one out).

Do they hate me because I'm 26? Or because of my claims, neither of which were my fault?

Any ideas who else I might try? Lots of companies seem to squeal and hide at the mention of the words 'modification' or 'engine upgrade'!

Cheers

Andy.

Seems a bit steep. I went through Adrian Flux for my MY99 Turbo (only mod listed is colour coded handles, skirt and bumper extensions - but I haven't had it done yet!!) I'm 25, 5 years no claims, two non fault accidents and a quote of £730 but thats not protected and an excess of 450.

simon_prickett 10 April 2001 09:32 AM

Hmmm, I'm 27 and paying £650 for an MY 98 turbo wagon through Adrian Flux. I'm on 4 years no claims, and have it garaged, cat 1 and commuting covered.

Quotes I got for my previous Fiat Coupe 20v turbo are at

Andy, try Tescos, they were £400 less than Direct Line for me: 24 Full 7years no claims, MY00 with 17" and Sti V5 rear wing, coming in at just under the excess of £1,000. In a rather less than favourable postcode area in Glasgow. A very plesant surprise for me last Saturday http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried Tesco - £1023 - so that's the best quote so far.

Still waiting for a renewal quote from Greenlight, and for John @ Schofield to call me back.

Andy.

Go to the Halifax website...then ring the no.they give there (it's Chuchill that underwrites I think...)...I had the best qoute by miles from this route...you get an extra 5% off by going via this route also...I think you have to qoute a ref no that's on the web site...GOOD LUCK!!!

Rum has your mate John Stringer got a telephon number? Need to arrange insurance for MY00 with PPP and DEP.

Grateful for his details

Thanks

Steve Perriam 12 April 2001 05:36 PM

i just tried tesco's but they wanted a tracker before the would cover an impreza !

frizzell came up with £740.00

halifax would not quote for a turbo but put me through to Master QuoteLine who could only do £849.00.

both the above are for me and the better ½. i'm 32, full protected NCB, 1 SP40, 1 claim. she's 27 full protected no claims. also included business cover. £250 XS.

guess i'll try a few more companies to see if anyone can get below £700 !

cheers

steve

car is a my00, garaged with no mods.

AndyC_772 27 April 2001 03:28 PM

Thanks for all your replies.

I've ended up renewing with Greenlight for £1010, with £400 xs, including like-for-like cover on mods (eg. wheels) and a very positive attitude to things like the PPP and 17" wheels. They also do track day cover at around £40 per event with £800 xs, which seems very reasonable to me.

Andy.

If like me you have a scooby worthy of good insurance contact these guys. They are on 01277 263030. They seem to know what they were talking about. As my scooby is modified i try to confuse companies with the mods to see how good they are and if they know their stuff. These guys passed.
If you want a really good cover call them.

Mike

P.S. You can even get track day cover if you are with them so you don't have to worry about your baby when you are burning round the track.
