Who's running a Turbo Timer ?
 

Hi gang,

I've been considering if there are any advantages in running a Turbo Timer ?
I do a lot of shortish trips and find the cooling off periods a pain would there be any advantage in running a timer ?
I understand insurance companys may not like them... I've yet to query that side of things with one as yet :eek: but what goes into the fitting as I see they sell new for around the hundred mark but it looks to me as not a DIY job so there will be a fitting charge on top.

I'll be interested to hear a few views on the subject :D

My car has 47k on the clock and I have no idea if the warming up and cooling down times have been kept to in the past.

I would prob use mine alot more if i could set the alarm while it was on, but as it is i set it then have to wait until it times out before i can set the alarm...... so whats the point?
I've recently seen certain alarms that incorperate a turbo timer which seems a far better idea to me.
But do remember the police take a very dim view on any vehicle left unattended with the engine still running.
BTW i was speaking to a specialist turbo company the other day, the guy ther reckons that letting idle for 3 to 4 mins after a run prolongs the life of the turbo for something like 10k, personally i thought it would of been much more than that, hardly seems worth all the fuss to me if thats the true. His theory was that regular oil and filter changes were much more important. And the average lifespan of a turbo was between 60 and 70 k depending on the above.

Thanks for that, the timers I have read up on work off the handbrake so if anyone releases the hand brake the engine cuts out, as far as I'm aware you can still alarm and basically walk off.
It's probably something that I would consider using arriving home on the driveway or in work rather than a public place as I see why the Police would take a dim view on it.

you can't turn your alarm on while the engine is still running. if you set your alarm to auto arm you can just lock the doors and leave it to do its stuff.

as for fitting, the hardest thing is sticking it to the dash - not fun when it drops off and goes under your brake pedal :)

get one with a subaru loom and it literally is just plug it in in the driver's footwell and stick it somewhere.
