Motorola V3
Motorola V3 in 'Razr Black'
Anyone got one? Im looking at getting one on a contract. Would like your opinions.... Cheers, Matt |
+ it looks cool
+ it's very thin - it's made by Motorola... - why has the "Rolf Harris Stylophone"-style number pad suddenly become fashionable? |
I love mine. Case seems to be hardwearing. Everything else is upto normal Motorola quality

Cheers for comments.
Sith, A few people have said the menu is slow and the phonebook isnt very practical, do you have any problems with either?? |
Had no problems with either. You can add 2 numbers per contact plus email addy etc. Phone book is fine to me. I've Moto's for several years now. I've not noticed the menu's to be slow.
The phones are fragile though. I wouldn't want to drop it. My old V600 took a right old battering. The V3 wont. |
A mate handed me one the other day and said I could use it for a change..
I put my sim in and tried it for 5 mins, took my sim out and handed it back :D Slow, tedious menus and ways of saving things. Looks nice, that's about it. I'll keep my p910 until the p915 comes out thanks :) |
I've got one, good for having in your pocket on a night out, so slim, here's the bad bits:
Hardly any functionality over a say a 6230, battery life = 3 days (at best) 1 day with bluetooth turned on. slows down when the memory (about 8mb fills up) But if you just want a smart looking phone without any poncing about video messaging etc (like me) then all good |
i like mine
its a pretty "cool" phone to be honest, mine is simply used to ring the odd person and mainly take incoming calls so most of the other bad points people make about it dont apply to me  |
I've got a Sony which has an excellent interface and is superb to use but is very bulky so I bought a V3 mainly because I wanted a phone which would fit neatly into my pocket whilst wearing summer clothes which it does very, very well. My V3 is also the video recorder edition which is nice if you're into that sort of thing - the standard one doesn't record videos which is a bit lacking imho. I find it nice to use but not quite as good as the fantastic Sony interface. It does seem quite fragile whereas my Sony is as solid as a brick (and about as big as one too :D ).
On the whole I think it's a nice, neat little phone which is very easy to use - I still haven't read the manual properly. Actually the manual is dreadful, possibly the worst I've come across :D I had a choice of silver or black, the difference in price was about a tenner and I went for the silver because after hours of deliberation I decided I it looks nicer :) On the whole I like it, the keypad is fantastic to use, it's got a really nice feel to it and the keys are well spaced out. Lol @ the Rolf Harris Stylophone, I'll think of that every time I use it now :D |
Just got mine in black from carphonewarehouse for £2.99 a month (18 month contract) with 3 x £60 payments at 6, 12 and 18 months.
Love the look. Need to spend some time finding out how to use full functionality. Specially email and internet access and video messaging. SC - mine plays the "Moto" video and I have worked out how to take photos. Is there an easy way to test if mine is Video capable ? |
depends on how upto the minute you want to be, i have had my d500 for aout 8 months, prefer it to the razzzzzor but both have been out for a while so will be replaced soon, unless they have already and then its time for another upgrade!!
|
jods, go into the menu, select the 'multimedia' icon, then select the video icon which should bring up the videos stored in the phone, underneath in brackets it will say New Video, select that and it will take you into the video capture screen. There's probably a short cut somewhere but I haven't found it yet :D

Mate of mine's thinking of getting one to replace his old T Mobile Nokia; trouble is the new one he's after is a Vodafone phone - anybody know how easy the razor is to unlock?
Cheers, Steve |
you can update the normal V3`s to enable video recording if you have a data cable (mine came with on)
one thing i never sussed out was the whole IM thing im asumeing you can log onto your AOL messenger thing or sumthing along those lines? |
It hasnt got a video camera.
It always looks "mankie" , you cant keep it cleen. And the little black buffer grommets at the top of the screen fall out. Good reception Good functions good in the back pocket of you jeans........... Goes well with Flip Flops...:) |
it has got a video camera
you just need the later firmware flashed over it the technology is there, it was just not released on the early ones http://www.mark-world.com/Motorola/page3.html |
I have read the link.........
Can you get it done at the shop ? |
Mine has got a video camera and it looks fabby with my flip flops ;)
Micky, I've been wondering about the IM thing too, is it just for chat? My Sony does something called chat which is like texting but you get a chat room type screen up, not that I've ever used it. |
probably if they know what there doing?
i have no expeariance of mobile shops i learned how to unlock mine just so i could upload games that i had downloaded from the net took me a while to suss it out but i got there, i rekon i could do the video recording on mine now, but i have no need for it, the V3 memory is low to start with so you could not record for long anyway maybe thats why the did not bother putting it on the early phones? |
Its got as much memory as a goldfish with amnesia :)
|
Was going to post earlier today how good mine has been, but today it stopped working for no apparent reason. Real shame, as it has been fine up to now, but now just wont turn on, or off. Took battery out for half an hour then put it back, put it on the charger, took sim out, all the usual stuff, but still broken. Back to the shop tomorrow.

has anyone been been able to enable video recording on their v3, just seen this on ebay. so looks like it can be done?

ive got the V3 Black and i love it and hate it.
the screen gets very dirty, but a spongy thing came with it on a string to clean the phone.it attatches to the phone, i threw the first one away cos i didnt know what it was. i find it awkward to open and usully end up pressing the side buttons by mistake. it isnt slow, but it is slower than a Nokia, but only fractionaly ive dropped mine loads of times and the havnt scratched any black off yet gets very hot in the sun :thumb: hads loads of probs with the Phone Tools on the pc, its very tempermental:D BTW i am on my 3rd one, they just stop working for some reason:( still love it though:thumb: |
My only qualm I have is the general slowness, especially when writing a text message. I've had mine since December though, so perhaps they've updated the software since?
Mine doesn't have the option to capture video either - can anyone link to the firmware, please? |
can only find this so far, any good?
