Good vs Evil

Do you believe in an almighty force for good?
Does the Beast exist ?

Only ask cos I've just watched the Omen II

Andy Tang 18 July 2005 12:02 AM

God and Satan are two sides of the same coin, no point having one without the other, or at least that's the theory.

Personally... None of this ****e

Gear Head 18 July 2005 12:07 AM

agree with the above.

If you believe in one you have to believe in the other too!

You can believe in a god without the belief in satan. Satan is very much a Christian thing along with Hell, these concepts really are not present in the old testament.

Perhaps respondents could be asked this question again on their deathbeads.

Also don't know about satan, but I know there is something evil in this world, when you look at a the innocence of a baby and then see what atrocities man is capable of when grown up.

One things for sure - If we could convince the muslims that their faith (like all others) is a "load of ****e" it would be a lot harder to brainwash young suicide bomber dickheads that they're going to sit beside Allah and go straight there !

Even old Osama himself would struggle to convice young terrorists that they should blow themselves up !

ps You can ask me anytime you like.

And that would make what difference? I doubt too many atheists will suddenly start to truely believe, a few agnostics my decide to hedge their bets and some believers may be thinking there is no god otherwise he would keep them alive, the rest will continue to believe what they believe. The believers will be waiting for rapture and the rest will be thinking about being worm food.

I'm not sure about that, sure faith is a useful tool in the brainwashing, but even without it people can be convinced that what they are doing is the right thing and be prepared to die for the cause - look at the Kamikaze in WW2.

You think a young british asian (he wouldn't be Muslim anymore if it didn't exist) could be convinced to Die for Tony Blair  ;)

Look, brain washing is pretty effective, but your just taking the pi$$ now ;) :D

Mind you our troops are doing it in Iraq etc and for not a lot of cash either if you are a grunt.

Blimey this thread went off a bit sideways pretty quickly :lol1:

Leslie 18 July 2005 11:58 AM

The title of the thread mentions both good and evil. It is generally accepted that good forces are countered by bad ones, it seems to be part of life and is there for us all to see.

Christianity proclaims the existence of God and also the forces of evil led by Satan. If you are not a Christian but believe in good forces than you are forced to accept the bad ones as well whether you want to call them satanic or whatever. Purely semantics really.

I don't believe that "good" or "evil" are forces. As such there is no co-dependance and there is no counteraction. Humans do things, whether they are considered good, evil or benign is measured against the moral baseline of the society in which the actions took place. I don't see it happening any time soon, but there is no physical reason as to why the world could not live in harmony where every action is considered good by society (indeed this is the very definition of the Christian heaven).

As a muslim I believe in God, Satan, Angels and Jin (The opposite of angels)

Trouble is OllyK, all that good harmony that the world could be living in is always spoilt by the evil actions of selfish people for their own purposes!

DrunkenPikie 20 July 2005 11:49 AM

Evil is good and good is evil.

It's often spoilt by actions that some consider true and just as well, because the people on the recieving end don't see it that way.
