Anyone else find the new Barclays advert sick

The one where the bloke drinks from a can with a wasp in causing his face to ballon...my 3 year old has just been upset seeing this (8:15 PM so not after the 9 watershed) plus a mate of mine nearly died when he got stung in the throat by a wasp, very scarey I can tell you.

I think it's pretty gross, anyone else agree it's bad taste?

Who do you need to contact to complain?

mega_stream 17 July 2005 08:32 PM

Right, found the place to complain, it's an online form so if anyone else agrees with me please fill this in.

Contact the ASA if you must.
INHO a 3 yr old should be in bed by 7pm anyway.

My personal opinion is that you are being a bit of a big girls blouse.

Really , my 2 year old daughter goes to bed about 8-8:30pm, so in that case she should be in bed at 6pm if a 3 year old should be in bed by 7pm.

You are obviously a very poor parent if you let a 2yr old stay up so late ;)

Oh yeah I'm such a poor parent, she has more clothes then I do, more shoes than I do, more food than I get, more toys than a toy shop, soon she'll take over the scoob!!!! LOL

Paul .G 17 July 2005 08:44 PM

Sorry, I think its quite funny, buts that just me :D

One assumes that she is your first child. I am not surprised she has more clothes or shoes than you do - She is growing faster than your fat butt can shoehorn itself into the bucket seat of the scooby.

As for the food - I don't think ordering "Supersize" meals for the bairn then hoovering it up yourself cos "it's a shame to waste it" counts. :)

PS - Only joshing :)

Sounds like you have your heart in the right place :)

LMAO yes she is my first child, and as for my fat butt shoehorning itself in to the bucket seat of the scoob, I highly doubt it, seeing as I'm quite small at the fine young age of 21, its more like the bucket seat swallows me up!!!!

Love the bit about the supersize meals LOL, how did you know??

Clarebabes 17 July 2005 09:17 PM

My 6 year old has a 7pm bedtime. Good routine is important and keeps her from falling asleep in class :)

A&E 17 July 2005 09:21 PM

snap ^^^ :) (and if she's up later than that she's not watching TV)

I'm just sick but it doesn't offend me :)

ru' 17 July 2005 09:23 PM

Hmm, Mary Whitehouse? This is a bit like complaining about the advert where people talk with their mouthfull (bugger king?) - a handful of people complain and it becomes the most complained about advert. We're talking about less than 0.01% of the population complaining and this is gets the advert pulled/restricted.

What is the world coming to? When I was a kid, Doctor Who made me scared. Maybe my parents should've complained and got it banned.

I'm not saying you shouldn't be a bit upset if your kid is, but couldn't you turn the TV channel over or something? The little one will have forgotten it tomorrow.

:D

Agree Paul. Took me by surprise tbh but boy I laughed.

Can see the other side though just personal opinion. And no I wouldn't like to get stung in the mouth.

Dream Weaver 17 July 2005 10:33 PM

Also think its a funny ad, and kids should be in bed earlier ;)

As for Julz1983, buying your kid so much stuff will lead to them being a spoilt brat when older IMO. Teach them the value of money early on ;)

KiwiGTI 17 July 2005 10:56 PM

I thought the ad was hilarious.

It also teaches children the dangers of wasps.

jods 17 July 2005 11:19 PM

So, in summary.

Mega - Scream is a big girls blouse and a wet blanket.
Julz is a babe with a tight a55.

It's time to go back to proper values where kids do as they are told WHEN they are told.

And if they DON'T do as they are told WHEN they are told - They get brayed !!

I'm with you.... stupid advert if you ask me.
Didn't like it at all.

Bring back rowan atkinson and his burning rug .... anyone remember those daft ads??

GaryK 18 July 2005 08:32 AM

I think the advert probably portrays the horror and pain of opening a bank account with Barclays! :D

RB5 Paul 18 July 2005 08:47 AM

Or trying to close one,did u see that bit in the paper about a woman who had to take her dads ashes down the bank to prove he was dead and couldn't sign the form
Looks like death certificates ain't worth so much these days.

Funny ad tho :D:D:D

davegtt 18 July 2005 09:08 AM

Thought it was stupid more than funny... Suprised someone finds time to whine at a pathetic attempt at advertising something to be honest....

Wouldnt let it worry me in the slightest. Even if your child got upset as someone else pointed out they'll have forgotten to tomoz.... Cartoons are more violent and disturbing now a days..... :)

SJ_Skyline 18 July 2005 09:15 AM

I laughed so hard I nearly fell off my chair! :lol1: As far as adverts go, this sure beats the crazy frog ;)

Iwan 18 July 2005 09:27 AM

I thought it was funny, mainly since it's a blatant rip-off of a Simpsons episode.

The one where the family are stuck in the forest and Homer goes off for help, eats some honey and gets stung in the mouth by a bee, staggers through some bushes losing his clothes, dives/falls into a pond to emerge covered in mud/weed and screaming incoherantly, whereupon he's darted by a park ranger who thinks he's Bigfoot.

Heh heh :)

stormyuklondon1 18 July 2005 09:44 AM

funniest advert on tv:D

TopBanana 18 July 2005 10:31 AM

I don't often laugh out loud at ads, but I did at this one!

Patt@firstime 18 July 2005 11:19 AM

Haven't seen it but sounds funny - don't think an advert has ever 'upset' me.

Leslie 18 July 2005 11:30 AM

Looks like they are scraping the barrel to think up an advert these days.

It obviously works though as we're all talking about it.

True - but (and now please be honest) has anybody rushed out to take out a Barclaycard today based on this? ;)

Jap2Scrap 18 July 2005 01:04 PM

You'd have to be a bit sensitive to find that advert sick I reckon. No wonder the government feels it needs to nanny us if we're complaining about things like that.

Still, not as bad as that ad with the dog crawling out of that guy's mouth as he laid on the sofa. That used to make me gag :thumb:
