Anyone actually bought issue 6 in a newsagents? Website says that subscribers copies were posted on the 30th June but no mention of when available in shops.

What is 'crappy' about it?

The content will not please everyone yet the majority seem to be pleased with it.

StickyMicky 09 July 2005 10:59 AM

poss because there is no other to compete against

sum crappy things imo

bit rich from me tbh but spelling mistakes, last mag i bought a few months ago had them as well
that suv thing does nothing for me at all which is fair do`s, im sure the american readers will love it
text is still to large, to fill the void by the lack of content IMO

New_scooby_04 09 July 2005 11:09 AM

I think this is a bit harsh. Fair comment about the typos, but it's not like they completely detract from the magazine, they are only the kind of superficial error that'll you see in the likes of EVO if you look hard enough. As for the content, I've been enjoying it so far. I think we have to bare in mind that this is still a very young magazine and I'm sure that there a re more ideas than means to implement them at this stage. It's most likely a steep learning curve for the team behind the magazine.

The content of the magazine is reflected by the amount of advertising i.e more advertising more content.

The magazine has subscribers all over the world, not just the US.

As for spelling mistakes everything is being done to alleviate this however there are still a few that are being overlooked for some reason :( even magazines that have a lot of staff working for them make mistakes nevermind a mag that only has two people working on it full time.

There are many magazines that I don't like however I don't go shouting about how crappy they are as I know personally how much effort goes into them.

Gidney&Knowlesy 09 July 2005 11:34 AM

The magazine is going from strength to strength with every issue under its belt. As a reatiler of the mag we have seen sales drop as our customers want to subscribe for a years worth.

Testament to the continuing improvements & diverse articles that Scooby Mag are producing & the varying markets that are being covered.

I always feel that it is easier to state ist crappy than write to the editor with constructive criticism & a way forward. I read plenty of mags & have thought that particular issue wasn't for me & some articles have fallen short of the mark, though my interests are diverse & to cater for the majority is far more important.

Scooby Mag keep up the fantastic work ;)

Ive seen this months magazine in a few newsagents in and around Mansfield, though I subscibe so I dont have to worry about it.
As for the content of the magazine, I think its very good. Ok there are a few mistakes but if you look in any magazine you can find some mistakes (JPM showing a set of Brembo calipers and saying they were AP calipers springs to mind).
I also think that this months magazine is the best yet which shows me that the mag is going from strength to strength.
Im sure problems like spelling mistakes will be sorted out as the magazine matures, also if youve got any constructive comments about the magazine why not give them an email as Im sure they would appreciate to know how you feel things could improve.

i would not say its harsh, i thought it was a pretty balanced view

i did not say it was compleatly fukcing ****e ;)
they were my opinions on that issue, after every single viewing of top gear there is a thread with people saying they loved it and hated it

i dont see anybody saying "i think thats harsh" after sumbody says that program was not as good as expected

not sure where your coming from with that comment so i will take it on board that your close to/ or part of the team that makes it?

try to remain subjective, it will make you a better person ;)

receaved a pm from highlander64k with a death threat in it so i will be passing it on to the police JOKE!
it was a decent pm with his views on things which is fair play.
he also agrees with sum of my points ;)

its fair enough saying this, but the uk population rarely acts like this
the french yes
the itallians yes

the uk no
uk people rarely complain or sugest, they get miffed and fook off

well that is what i was taught last summer on a course, maybe they lied?

Scooby Dan 09 July 2005 12:42 PM

Which newsagents are stocking it? Is it available nationally or just in a few newsagents?

Scooby_Dee 09 July 2005 12:51 PM

I wonder where the idea for the series 'One Foot in the Grave' came from? I know of many people who will stand up for what they believe in and will complain/speak up where necessary. ;)

Many people have emailed with comments which have been acted upon. :)

so do i
but the majority will not

and to be honest IMO, its not necassary to complain to a magazine that its not quite what you want.

i think "watford gap whimpy" is a ****en bag of ****e, but i would never email them or write a letter telling them so.

if i was ripped off for a large sum of cash then maybe i would go nuts

Maddog 09 July 2005 01:58 PM

Just bought this issue and had a quick read.
 whats sh**e about it?
I thought the sidewinder article was pretty interesting, never seen or read anything like that anywhere before and its a rear drive Impreza.

Didn't think much of the tribeca thing though, i felt since the mag is aimed at scoobys i.e. imprezas, then that was not my cup of tea.
Might be interested in it if i had 5 sprogs to cart about!! :D

I think it's a difficult thing to balance up tho to cater for all tastes.

Scooby_Dee 09 July 2005 02:14 PM

Imprezas are not the only Scoobies, there is more to the Subaru range than this. It's just that the Impreza is the most popular model :)

Maddog 09 July 2005 02:47 PM

Yep i know that, but what is the core market you're aiming for with the mag?

mid_life_crisis 09 July 2005 02:55 PM

Excellent mag, like it a lot personally.

It was initially aimed towards the Impreza, with a small percentage of other models of Subaru to be included. However, as time has progressed we've realised there is an appreciable amount of Legacys and Foresters that are owned by our readers. In Japan, the Legacy tuning scene is rapidly growing and as usual, we are starting to see this in some of the products filtering their way into the UK.

The mag was originally planned to be aimed at the modifier and aftermarket parts purchasers although that concept was thrown away pretty quickly in light of excessive requests for test drive reports etc.

I appreciate that some people want an Impreza 'only' magazine. I do think some diversity is necessary or it all becomes a little boring. I remember a post that someone wouldn't even entertain the idea of reading a mag just about Subarus, let alone one with only Imprezas.

The UK couldn't justify the other popular Subarus having their own dedicated magazine (not yet anyway) and we've taken the opportunity to satisfy the estimated 15-20% of the readers that own something other than an Impreza. Let's not forget that there is a huge cross-over in the components between the different vehicles and technology on one can normally be transplanted to another.

Also, what we (including myself) sometimes forget is that it's not just about the car itself. The communities, clubs, motorsport enthusiasts and all the events are another aspect of owning a Subaru (for many) and we hope to be able to promote and raise awareness of such.

So, to conclude, it is aimed mainly at the Impreza market, but gives some diversity by including the other 'astounding' Subaru vehicles, in a similar way that the Ford magazines operate.

Anybody, please feel free to drop me an email or give me a call if you've got any questions where I'll do my utmost to help.

On a final note - anybody who likes the Forester and hasn't taken the opportunity to drive the XT 2.5 or 2.5 STi should do so right away - they left me with an ear-to-ear grin :D
