Decent Restaurant in Southampton
Taking the mrs for a weekend away at a hotel later on this month. Anyone recommend a decent restaurant?
Preferably nr West Quay. Looking to spend £80ish on the food I guess. Cheers, Simon. |

If you like Indian restaurants then
Jewel in the crown,on shirley rd,shirley high street. Not sure how far its from west quay though. I found this to be a very nice restaurant. |

Yes soton as dont really fancy travelling too far.
Usually go for indian/chinese but fancy Modern British cuisine. Simon. |
Don't know of any 'Modern British' type restaurants (although I'm sure there are some), but Kuti's Indian and City Beijing Chinese are both excellent examples of their type :)

The Olive Tree in Oxford Street is pretty good.

Southampton doesn't have any really *nice* places. Best place nearby for modern british/european is Le Poussin at Parkhill, which is actually near Brokenhurst as they are refurbing Parkhill. http://www.lepoussin.co.uk/
We've had several amazing diners there, but the place is a bit formal and over 60% of guests are >60 years old Rgds Cman |
Everytime i've been to Kuti's i had to sit on the loo for the next 24hrs:o

Dock Gate 4, near Ocean Village near to the Casino if you want some high class dining, lovely food, a piano bar downstairs, lovely jubbley.

Would recommend Olive Tree or Kuti's. Went to Southampton a few weeks ago for Norwich match, Oxford Street by far the best part of town as far as I could find. Good bar there too pre eating, The White Star I think, nice place.

Being chinese, I would say Kams is all show. If you want proper chinese food that the chinese would eat try Pearl Harbour in the city centre or Panda on Bedford Place.
Been to Olive Tree and DockGate4- didn't really rate both of them. I like Margherita's in the Town Quay- good pasta and pizza dishes. They have a dance area which creates a good atmosphere on weekends. If you are prepared to travel out of the city, in Lyndhurst there's a really nice Italian restaurant which do THE BEST desserts EVER called La Pergola. Its only 15mins drive out of the city into the New forest. |
