Good Books

I'm going away this week and want to take some poolside reading with me. Anybody recommend a decent book?

I'm 24 and my fav films are Clockwork Orange, Snatch, Fight Club (read the book), Trainspotting (read the book)

Thanks in advance,

Rik.

Try:

A White Merc with Fins, by James Hawes (Brit crime thriller)
Freaky Deaky, by Elmore Leonard (US crime thriller)
Fukced by Rock, by Zodiac Mindwarp (one of the funniest books about the fag-end of the music business)

You might enjoy early Martin Amis - Dead Babies, Success or Money. Funny/rude/nasty... entertaining.

Trainspotting is IW's best book imo, but Acid House - short stories - is good, and Porno's ok too.

When I'm at an airport I buy a Carl Hiaasen book - Miami crime-ish writer - feckin hilarious. Not read a bad one yet.

I mentioned this in another thread but I can wholeheartedly recommend "The Dirt" the Motley Crue biog. You might not know much about them now but it's fascinating, horrifying and very hard to put down. Not your usual, "I had it so hard," bullsh!t.

Kitchen Confidential , pretty good if you like the idea of being a big name chef, will put you off the idea in no time and very funny. Read a couple of good Vietnam books recently, Blackjack 33 and Eyes behind the lines.Chickenhawk also good Vietam book but former 2 are better by far.

Iain Banks : The Wasp Factory - Very odd!
William Suttcliffe : Are You Experienced - Youre 24 so itll be right up your street!
Nick Hornby : Fever Pich - If you like footy
