HOLIDAY INSURANCE

It's nearly time for my annual hols. So i need insurance for a familly of five, for 3 weeks for mainland europe. Who are the best and cheapest? Last year i used the post office (£60).

post office is usually a bit more expensive, but it gives excellent cover. I always use it now after a bad experience with one of the cheapo companies

I did wonder about going too cheapo, as you get what you pay for i suppose. But i still think they are expensive.

I had a cheapo policy which looked OK, until we lost our credit cards, passports, some cash and some personal belongings (all in a belt pouch which was stolen at the airport). When I tried to claim they pointed me to the small print stating that there was a £200.00 excess and the maximum claim was £100.00. They woudn't process it without a crime referece number, but as it happened in France, the crime reference number was a different format. I sent the the police statement and they wouldn't process it because it was in French  Eventually they said that as it happened in the airport it should be classified as lost luggage and I should claim from the airline.

I know someone who claimed from PO insurance last year. No hassle and everything was sorted out within a week. I think the cheapo ones are really only for medical cover, although given the above experience they might fight on that as well. If you want to compare prices have a look at www.thisismoney.co.uk

Do any insurance companies not include the clause that they don't cover you if your under the influence of alcohol. Your on holiday of course your under the influence of alcohol!

Me and the g/f going to the USA for just over 2 weeks and found Norwich Union to be one of the cheapest. For both of us in total was bit over £60.

Not bad considering Thomas Cook wanted £120! Compared the medical cover etc and it seems to be the same, so we went with NU.

Hopefully wont need to make use of it though!!!
