Advice wanted on bankers draft/EFT payment

Hi all,

On Sat morning I'm selling my STi V wagon to another SNer :D. My issue is that I'm scheduled to collect my new motor (diesel  ;) ) on Saturday afternoon, so I need the funds to be available for me on that Sat afternoon.

One process could be is for the buyer to come to my bank Sat am and the bank to validate his bankers draft. Then, ideally, my bank would issue me there and then a bankers draft so I can get my car. Thus doing the 'transaction' within an hour on a Sat morning.

The other process could be to both go into my bank Sat am, and get a CHAPS transfer (on a Sat?) from his to my account. I can then pay by Maestro/Switch at the dealers for my car or get a bankers draft made up. Again, doing the transfer within an hour on the Sat am.

Am I expecting too much to ask??! ;) Can someone advise me if I can do any of the above or is there another quick and secure way of doing it Sat am???

TIA

AFAIK, bankers drafts still take the 3/4 days to clear.

Speak to the bank. They'll tell you what to do.

IIRC, you need to order a bankers draft, they won't just issue one there and then (particularly on a Saturday!). Best bet is to have your buyer do a CHAPS transfer on Friday morning.

I've ordered a BD on the spot before - cant remember if it was a Sat though!

CHAPS - can this be reversed later in the day by the buyer? Or does that only apply to BACS transfer?
