Properly shafted !

Having sorted out my rear diff cradle issues and centre diff shaft, http://bbs.22b.com/cgi-bin/ultimateb...;f=36;t=000199 I predict my next torque related problem will be driveshafts.
Pavlo , Calder and Haldor have already had breakages (fronts) with similar power and torque so i was looking at the upgrade options.
GKN/RCM are out on cost, at over £6k for 4 shafts that really is properly shafted ;)
There is a company in the states that does uprated shafts for the 01 onwards WRX and Sti (listed as different parts)
They can't tell me if they fit, I suspect I could use the new Sti rears (R180) and new WRX or Sti fronts ?
Anyone have any idea if either of the new age shafts fit the Sti5 type R ?

I know for the GC8 6 speed swaps you can use the original cars front shafts as long as the box still has the short output stubs in it. Just not sure about the shaft length or fitting at the hub end ?

I had hoped the rear shafts would be the same as the new age R180 Sti ? They are the same at the diff end (I have an Sti 03 diff in the rear) but again, not sure about at the hubs/length ?

Anyone ?

Andy

as far as i know the rear shafts from an STI 03/04 are 5 mm longer (each) as the classic.
The wheelbase is also a bit bigger due to the shaft's. I think this should fit one on one though. I have no problem with it. I did have to change te rear hubs to WRX size because the shaft's didn't fit into the classic hubs.
Since you've allready driving with the R180 diff i think it should fit.

New age STI V7 6speed front shafts will fit a classic Subaru, that has a 6 speed. 6spd shafts fit into classic hubs no problems.

We recently swapped Sinkys original WRX front 5speed shafts ( car has 6 speed box though ) for V7 6 speed shafts, and same with Warrens UK car.

Rear shafts I cant say for sure. But, if you fit the R-180 and Brembos from a STI7, the diff, hubs and shafts fit into a Legacy, so I assume it will fit a classic without any issues.

I recall Town End Garage having uprated shafts on display 2 years ago at the Autosport show, but could be silly cost.
Don't GKN do custom shafts?
Graham.

GKN/RCM are out on cost,
Andy.. might be worth speaking to the " propshaftclinic" in bradford nr leeds.

is the shaft the weakness? or is it the CV? IE could they be sleeved or something simple?
