Another Scooby Win !

Anyone up at the Quickshift drag racing today ? It was good to see the Scooby win the shootout .

If you weren't there I'll explain . Fensport had been invited to bring a car over from England for the event . They arrived with an innocuous looking black Corolla but it was a real monster underneath , supposedly producing 650 bhp ! It was running on slick tyres , race fuel , trick diffs , etc . All day it was wiping the floor with all challengers & held the fastest overall time of the day for cars .

The fastest 8 cars went into a shootout 2 at a time head to head down the 1/4 mile , 1st to the end wins . Naturally the Corolla got to the final & his challenger was a white Impreza driven by a local guy from Antrim . His car also looked innocuous but was reported to be producing 550 bhp but running road tyres , road fuel , standard diffs , etc & the car was driven to the track , not trailered like a lot of stuff . But the guy made cracking starts every time & was very smooth with his gearchanges .

They lined up & everybody thought it was just a formality . Off the start it looked like it as the corolla pulled away from the scoob in the 1st 20 metres . But the corolla suddenly slowed & the scoob disappeared off into the distance accompanied by cheers & applause from the crowd . The corolla had lost 2nd gear , giving the scoob the win .

There were a lot of scoobs there so odd are some of you were .

Derek

The winner was bigsinky off the site. It was a fantastic day and i am no longer a 1/4 mile virgin, had mine out for the fun.
It was a fantastic day and Bigsinky winning made it even better!!

Certainly was a good day for Sinky :)

copying and pasting from what I wrote on 22b.com

Quickshift, was the first proper drag event ever to be held here in Northern Ireland, at St Angelo airfeild in Enniskillen..
200 cars from all over Ireland, and some from the UK attending.
Straightliners were operating the timing...

Final came down to 8 cars as per usual, head to head shootout, 6 of which were running in the 11's, and one the 10's ( Fensport Corolla )
3 Skylines, 2 Evos, 2 Subarus, and Fensport

Neil managed some good times with good starts to win his Quarter and Semi, against Skyline, and Subaru resp.

Final came down to Fensports Corolla and BigSinky.

Neil got the launch on him, and was ahead..then Fensport broke 2nd gear lol

What a bummer...I bet Fensport arrived thinking they would kick ass...they arrived on a trailer ( as so many "road" cars do ), sticky tyres, full of race fuel...They took it home on a trailer too lol.
Admittedly, their car is quicker, but that wasnt enough to win it.

Neil drove there as always, normal road tyres, and pump fuel only, and won the trophy, beating off quite a few contenders.
Final run was 11.57 @ 123. Plenty more to come, as it really isnt getting that much boost yet.....

Roll on TOTB :)

ECC 13 June 2005 06:14 PM

was a good day !

we were very happy with our times esp being just 0.17 behind sinky ;) and thats on a std uk engine with a few add ons :thumb:

and there's a LOT more to come :D

dmc1980 13 June 2005 06:47 PM

What car were you in ecc?

the blue 2 door with the stickers on it.

ustolemyname??stevieturbo 13 June 2005 09:51 PM

0.17 ??

His best time was 11.57 @ 123mph..

You were getting some damn good runs ECC, very consistent launches, and good runs every time :thumb:

Not that it makes much odds....why does a 2 door have a UK spec engine ?

ECC 13 June 2005 11:29 PM

11.57 ? was 11.80 on the last sheet we saw ? anyways 0.4 of a sec behind then.

"Not that it makes much odds....why does a 2 door have a UK spec engine ?"

youre right....because the car isnt an sti and the original wrx engine had gone when the car was bought so a std uk lump was thrown in meantime.

not bad going for as car with 320bhp :norty:

ustolemyname??stevieturbo 14 June 2005 12:18 AM

Times for the finals wont be displayed, as its a head to head race. The times are recorded during the runs, but wont appear on final sheets usually.

A 2 door thats not an STI ? It didnt look like a P1 ?

Dont take this the wrong way, A normal weight Impreza is not going to run a 12 sec 1/4 with only 320bhp.
I would say you are underestimating it a bit.

Stevie they made a 1.6 2 door which is what I believe this car started life as.

Last time I saw it on the rollers it did 315 although it did get a weee tweak a couple of weeks back :)

fookin big tweek m8. no way that car is running std internals an running under 12 second 1/4s. has to be close to 450 bhp if not more for those times.

ustolemyname??stevieturbo 14 June 2005 01:10 AM

Maybe not that much...

What weight actually is the car ?? Terminal speeds would suggest around 400bhp if its same weight as a normal Impreza, which it shouldnt be far off.
Left lane seemed to be about 5-6mph down on the right lanes terminals. Right lanes would seem to ba correct.

What sort of 60fts were you getting ?

And it could certainly do it on std internals.....its just a case of for how long will it do it.

What turbo's on it ?

bigsinky 14 June 2005 01:30 AM

here are the last three time cards

Last tweak was FMIC and a play with the map at a guess probably around 335ish now yep sure enough its on the edge for what it is but it did 15 runs at SSO and 10 runs on Sunday without so much as a hiccup

I will swear my car on it m8 that its running a std uk lump

Who's that stevie ? where is the entry list for TOTB

Car was no 525 @ SSO think it ran different drivers during the day

ustolemyname??stevieturbo 16 June 2005 01:08 AM

Steven Darley posted the entry list on 22b.com, as he is organising Team 22B.com ( Team Subaru basically ) although that doesnt include invited cars etc.

John Curistan is entered, Impreza as an invited car, East Coast Customs 500+bhp

http://www.stevend.org/uploads/Redli...4entrylist.xls

Car no 525, Andrew Mercer at SSO. Best run was 12.88 @ 106mph
Consistently running high 12's/low 13's that day.

St Angelo is a massive improvement over that. Well done :thumb:

I am in the process of building a new engine for them which is planned to be in for TOTB :)

There was no change in the spec of the car between the 2 events seems like a similar scenario to the times Mark Aigin was managing at SSO then Steven Darley jumped in

Guess it goes to show how much of a difference the driver makes

Is there anywhere with a list of all the times and runs from sunday ?

P20SPD 16 June 2005 02:16 PM

It's all dependant on sympathy :D

I wasnt being truly brutal with Marks car either ;), flat changes are still to come (if i can get Marks agreement) :D

Stevie, my genuine UK car 2.0l record appeared to go at the weekend, Bob'5 on here beat my 12.16 by doing a 12.08.

Nearly 2 years i held that for :D (to my knowledge)

P20SPD 16 June 2005 02:19 PM

keep an eye on here http://www.straightliners.co.uk/java/java_frame.htm

events 2005
cars

Straightliners are pretty good at putting times up as soon as they can.

ustolemyname??stevieturbo 16 June 2005 05:38 PM

Quickshift times can be found here.

http://www.jon44w.co.uk/forum/viewthread.php?tid=49164

There is a link to the .doc files at the end of it too, or pm me your email and I will forward them on.

straightliners usually email all competitors the results...

Flat shifts are a tricky one.... More chance of crunching a gear IMO, although its not something ive tried too often.
I do actually have a flat shift on my car, but never had the balls to try it. It cuts the ignition for about 50ms if the clutch is pressed, and the throttle above 65% I think ( user adjustable )
