Advice on Wagon purchase

I'm thinking about buying a NA wagon (classic) as a bit of a run-about. I still want 4wd, but what it the best model for

1) low insurance
2) fuel economy

Cheers,

Wayne.

PS I own a 98 WRX, just before anyone suggests a turbo!!

Alternative thought

Why not buy a Forester - same running gear but cheaper insurance (or mine is anyway) and no hassle from the "lets get the Scooby" mob.
And probably cheaper to buy.

what about a impreza sport wagon

cookstar 12 June 2005 09:20 PM

I heard that even the non turbo impreza has terrible m/p/g. is this true?

If you already have wrx, why dont you get a real run-about and get a mondeo estate, cheap ins & m/p/g. Also when your finished with it you can burn it :norty:

Very true, in fact the value of the car will increase many times over, every time you fill it up with juice.

A friend from work has one and yes they are thirsty compared to other 2.0l motors. They are still no where as bad as a turbo though :D

99 RS (USA, we didn't get turbos back then) 20 MPG(+/-) city, 30 MPG highway (70 -80 MPH). Using midgrade fuel (89 RON?). While I don't thrash my car I do consider my driving "Spirited". And should I drive 90 - 100, what me speed?, well the fuel tank starts to collapse as I am drawing the fuel out so fast.

I have considered a diesel but like the wagon. I only do a couple of miles a day so a diesel wont actually save me that much in fuel although from time to time I will have to travel to work in it.

Decisions?

Still thinking.

My sister's Sport was thirstier than my MR2 and my GT4 and was slower than a Saxo VTS. A lot of juice for not a lot of go.

Get a 2.0 zetec mondeo mate, for what they are they do move along. And so cheap to .

The problem is that low insurance and good fuel economy is not what Subaru are good at!

If don't realistically need 4WD, then look at something like a Ford Focus TDI. Very low insurance, excellent fuel economy and not a bad handling car!
