not being funny or out but all people are doing is saying nice motor and good luck, a big thanx to you all but the point of this thread was to ask about my car go to start of thread and start again.

RLE 06 June 2005 07:16 PM

Think the buyers are out there its just a case of being patient.

I had my UK97 on here for a few weeks before trying the trader. Plenty of calls telling me it was up for too much (£7k but had several thousands in mods - 320bhp etc) and had a few offers of £5.5k etc.

Mine truly was a mint example in every sense of the word and I knew the first person to come see it would buy. Low and behold got my asking price on the first view last week and have had about 20 calls this weekend alone for it. Can only assume everyone went to look at the C**p first and realised just how many rough examples were out there.

The irony is I'd have taken just over £6k for it on here but thankfully my patience paid off and I was rewarded with the extra £1k. To be honest it was still sickening taking that for it given what I had in it............certainly wont be spending silly money on the new STI.

Best of luck with your sale.

speedystu 06 June 2005 07:20 PM

see thats better cheers RLE for the vote m8 will hold out a bit longer

ALi-B 06 June 2005 09:32 PM

Being honest, and no disrespect it is up for too much money, if its cheap enough, it will sell. And it is very easy for you overvalue your own ex-pride and joy.

From a buyers point of view why pay £9K+ when you could get one for £7K thats not an import or been messed about with? The biggest problem with scoobs is the average buyer is very naive.

RLE - a little over 6K for your car is all you could ever hope for. I thought my MY97 was worth £7K and the car is absolutely immaculate with just 40K. But looking at what you can get on the market, you haven't a cat in hells chance of getting that, unless your very lucky and found somebody who was really desperate to buy one...which you won't because there is shed loads of scoobies on the market.

The tragic mistake is pricing on other similar cars for sale, sure they maybe advertised for that price but do they SELL for that price? In most cases they don't. The other mistake is thinking modification make your car worth more, they don't. In most cases it is actually worth less simply due it scaring the average buyer off (except the kids and dreamers), thus severly limiting your market appeal.

RLE 06 June 2005 10:03 PM

Agree with you completely Ali but the facts are there. The car sold for my asking price of £6995.00 within seven days of it being advertised in the trader. The buyer was neither in a rush nor were they a first time buyer. In fact the guy had had two Jap spec Imprezas before and knew exactly what he was looking for. In addition he said he'd been looking for months for the "right car" so I guess thats the key.

Yes the car was modified and probably put a lot of potential buyers off. But the first person to come, see the car, see and more importantly understand the spec bought it no haggling. He obviously knew it wasn't worth buying a standard example then throwing another £5k-£8k at it to get it to my spec. Mine obviously ticked the boxes etc.

I could have probably have made more stripping the bits off but didn't have the time nor the inclination. Likewise it would have been easy to accept the first offer that came along as I already had the replacement in my garage. I may have been lucky but I held out for a matter of days and got the right money.

If Speedy's in no rush I think he should wait. My friend took an eternity to find a 2001 plated Classic Sti (hates the bug/ blob eyes) recently and paid a bit more than what this ones advertised for in the knowledge that they weren't two to a penny like the pre 99 Classics.

leecalcars 06 June 2005 10:46 PM

Hang out stu someone will come along sooner or later i thought of selling my type r a few months ago but was offered silly money no point in giving it away thats what you'd be doing if you sell for less than the asking price , i know we are all open to negotiations but as all enthusiastes know if you want something bad enough you will do anything to get it whatever the cost
Hope you get what you r asking

regards lee p.s nice example

ALi-B 06 June 2005 10:55 PM

Indeed, if your in no hurry. There is no harm with sticking to your guns.

I mentioned in another thread about a bloke with a 1989 BMW 325. I offered a very fair £600, he wants at least £1000. After over a month the car is still there sat on his drive, I saw him last week and said the offer is still open if he's changed his mind. But he wasn't having it.....but for how much longer though??? ;)

Scratch 06 June 2005 11:07 PM

If it were a wagon I'd be interested

speedystu 07 June 2005 06:09 PM

i think that i better put it in the garage then!!

Lou x 07 June 2005 06:12 PM

speedystu 07 June 2005 06:14 PM
