"BIZARRE EXHAUST"

... a quick question: i have heard an unbelievable sound on a subaru impreza in bradford - a sound that i have never heard before and can only describe as weird and bizarre! i am 100% sure it's from the exhaust... it's no blitz or hks and the infamous 'burble' is missing! it's difficult to describe but here goes... a very loud "screeching" sound (more like a bee) - spoke to a few scooby specialists who just like me advised that there is no such 'bit' that can be added on... one or two had ideas of their own as to what the owner had possibly done but weren't happy to advise others! they thought that the owner had replaced the inner of the exhaust with 1-2" pipe and i quote... "drilled small holes" - they said it was "very bad" for the engine and for the car as a whole! my question to you guys is simply: WHAT IS THAT SOUND and HOW IS IT CREATED?

Screamer pipe??????????????

sounds like the guy could have fitted a screamer pipe which comes from an external wastegate and blow off to atmosphere when the waste gate opens. This is instead of a vent to exhaust pipe. its just a guess though and will get you banned from any trackday due to noise regulations.

Most exhaust silencer's will produce the same sound, but hey an sillencer cost about 10% power ;)

One of the guys at the place where I've been sending my car is about to put a screamer pipe on his s14 200sx. Will have to see what happens there but will keep you posted..........
