JDM Silvia s14a, reliable?

It seems on Scoobynet that JDM import engines like to have nasty failures early in their lives.

I'm thinking of getting rid of my Legacy B4 and getting an s14a, there's one I have my eye on at the moment but it's also a JDM import.

What is the SR20DET engine like once imported, are they easier to convert to 97RON than the Subaru ones (mine was not mappable)? will it last me a decent amount of time?

Before my B4, I had a UK S14A, lovely car could not fault it. The engines seemed to report no common faults if looked after.

There are a few on there with import S14's and S15's.

Pop over to the above website. SOME high milers seem to have crank, well big ends, troubles similar to the C18DET. UK ones are cheap, why dont you just buy a decent UK car of the board? Your safest bet IMHO.

The guy in question (who is on that board) was wanting to ged rid due to a baby and wanted something like a Vectra GSI. The B4 fits that bill and a p/x would be uber convinient. I might take your advise anyway though, and just deal with the hassle.
