GTR/GTS Skylines
Could any kind person please explain the difference between these two models to a Skyline novice please?
I am considering getting a GTS as first and foremost i can't afford a GTR and secondly i would like something with a bit of grunt and with higher gearing than my JDM WRX. Thanks. Paul. |
well the gts-t is is a 2.5 single turbo rwd where the gtr is 2.6 twin turbo with 4wd, gtr has flaired rear archs.
|
Are they both 4WD?
|
GTS = Rear Wheel Drive.
GTR = Fancy 4WD system that detects the amount of wheelspin at the front or rear and adjusts power split front/rear accordingly. John. |
The GTR also has fancy 4 wheel steering, too.
The 2.5 motor isn't as tunable as the 2.6 either, having weaker internals, however they are still capable of some pretty silly power outputs. |
does the R32 have four wheel steer??
My mate has owned two, and i have never notice or heard of this on it. |

In my opinion youre better off with your WRX. The GTS is a barge and not that fast where it counts. It does have a 165mph top speed though.
|
I had a R33 GTS-t Type M. Rear wheel drive, 4 wheel steer.
Wheel spin at 80mph in 3rd on a slip road. 30 mile blast across Sussex/Surrey with a 911 carrera 2, followed by a 60 minute pint and a chat with the owner who was amazed my 11k "Datsun" sat on his tail. I'd dispute the "barge" and "they're not fast comments" |
That sounds like my idea of fun flightman, I like rear wheel drive. Could you tell me a little more about the car you had please?
What year was it? What power was it making and what was it like to own/top speed etc, thankyou. |
I just found the spec and it looks like it might be a good proposition for me,nice gearing and plenty of grunt even as standard, with a bit of minor tweaking theres probably a bucketload more available.

Check out www.skylineowners.co.uk before committing to buy , they are a great bunch and know their stuff . good luck Dan Ive got a R34 TWIN TURBO UK SPEC 1/80 I think They are fast very fast but are over rated, I cant throw the R34 around bend like i can throw the scooby about, So far in owning the vehicle,Bought it in july Last Year smashed it in August Last year Not my Fault They are very expensive to run but when i take it to Manchester and the amount of looks i get,im not bothered with costs. Ive wasted so many cars, Audi Rs6-Porsche GT3-M3's-R33-Evo Fq300 etc. If you want a skyline go for the real thing GTR Vspec. |

Paul. and in my opinion they are the better model as they are lighter than the R33 and R34. The R34 is a bit of a barge i've always preffered the 32 though as its not as in yer face as a 34/33. My missus has an R32GTR in gunmetal grey (best colour) IMO cost her 9.5k and spent 10k on toys for it :) |

I know a guy who had an r34 gtr. Had a slight knock on the right front wing. Cost over £2500 k to fix!
Tread carefully! |
Does this make you want to get a liner'
>>> http://www.sumopower.co.uk/ <<< 9.68Secs @ 144MPH At The Pod! On a serious note, check out www.linney.org, they have best skylines imo, and if i was going for one, the GTR would be the top of my list! |

I've also had a Accord Type R, Celica GT4 WRC ST205, and MR2 Turbo. The GTS was as quick as them all. From 100 up it was faster than them all. |
Thanks for your opinions folks, i read with interest.

R32 GTST is a 2.0 turbo, rear wheel drive 220bhp, 4 wheel steer, unsure of 0-60
R33 GTST is a 2.5 turbo, rear wheel drive 250bhp, 4 wheel steer, 0-60 6.9 R34 GTT is a 2.5 turbo, rear wheel drive 280bhp, 4 wheel steer, 0-60 6.9 (I think) R32 GTR is 2.6 Twim Turbo, intelligent 4WD, 4 wheel steer, 0-60 around 5 secs, ( heard anything from 4.9-5.1) R33 GTR is a bit slower, think its about 5.2 R34 is a bit quicker about 4.9 I think as they've had a bit more work done to the engine, different cams if I recall, as they are a lot heavier than the others. The R33 is thought of as a barge as they are quite heavy and apparently feel it. I've never had any scary moments in the R32 GTR, other than power sliding unintentionally, its always cornered as hard as I can push it. With all the skylines they benefit from exhausts, air filters and the GTST's improve a lot if you fit a front mount and do away with the 2 stage boost, (via an electronic boost controller). My R32 GTR has only basic mods, downpipe, decat, exhaust air filters, Blitz ecu running 1 bar and is running 380bhp, not bad improvement for a couple of grand. There are a few 500-600bhp GTST's on www.skylineowners.com one that was tuned by Top Secret still had standard internals at 500bhp. Hope thats helped. Alex B |
