Almera GTi - rear strut braces?

Now then.

I'm just in the process of looking at the car at the moment, but I've noticed that it has a strut brace going right across the boot, between the parcel shelf and the rear seats.

Question is, will it matter if I take it out? Unbolt the bar, that is, just so when required, the boot'll be a more useful size.... Tbh, its not as if I spend all the time driving 'on the limit' and so on, so I'm just thinking of practicality more than anything else, as I'll be needing to fit a bike in there every so often.

Will it make any noticable difference?
Will the car fall in two?

Any ideas?

Any ideas?

I'm sure it's the same as any other car, I'm just wondering if it'll be ok without it:)
