Alfa Romeo GTV / spider

any views on these
I know they are meant to have dodgy electrics - is this still true ?

thinkin of getting a 1998/1999/2000 2.0 Twin spark model

I would love the 3.0 litre - is it worth the extra ?

anyone know any Alfa web sites ?

not sure of any web sites, but my mate has one. firstly if you are over about 5'10" i would forget it. I am 6'3" and i drove it and my head was basically in the roof.
Other than that they are a good car to drive, and handle well. Also have a lovely noise (or at least this one does).

Only bad thing is his 2ltr model uses a lot of fuel, the scooby is not far off on economy.

There was an incident the other week where i lived which involved a woman on a test drive of one of these. The woman driving cornered the car at 40mph in a 60 zone, dry aswell, and totally lost control of the car killing a cyclist on the other side of the road.Doesnt sound very "sporty" to me.Also the engines arent the most reliable, speaking from experience.

I had the spider 2.0TS

it was a fantastic car, very responsive, and great fun!

watch out for the suspension on them, when they go, its bloody expensive, and by the way, they all pretty much go at some stage :(

heres mine:

Having driven a 2.0L T-Spark, I can honestly say that the leather seats, whilst being among the best looking you will see, are also the most uncomfortable seat I`ve ever sat in. I know that this sounds a bit "soft", but they were like sitting on a builder`s plank, and were that bad I thought I`d tell you. Other than that, I would agree with a previous poster who said headroom was a problem..............and I am 5`10.
Sorry it`s so negative, but there you go, my tuppenysworth.

I'm 6ft 4' and I owned a Spider for 18 months a sort of summer plaything always loved them so dont worry about height in a Spider.

Electrics are well sorted these days but do remember at the end of the day it's a Fiat Tipo underneath not a Ferrari 355.

The rear suspension is prone to excessive wear but is not excessive to repair/replace. Cam belts at 70k miles at a specialist like Black & White Cars in Cold Ash £300. Alfa's also suffer from breathing difficulties, a new filter and a new exhaust from Auto Delta will help it breathe better and sound fantastic too. Insurance is cheap and it's still better looking than a Honda S2000 and a Audi TT any day of the week, plus to be a proper petro sexual you need to have owned an Alfa at some stage of your motoring life!

I had a 98 spider 2.0 t spark. Great car. Always gets a few looks. The engine is solid if looked after, the pull and note is great. The electrics issues are on the auto soft top, about 4 motors required. I went for the last of the manual roofs to avoid this problem. Takes about 30 secs to put the roof down by hand. The handling defines scuttle shake. Add some front/rear strut braces and things really improve. The grip and feel were always great. I would still have the car now, but I became a Dad. The wife was not happy in the boot!!!!!!!!

A boot? I never found a boot on my Spider, there was space for a purse under a big metal flap that opened with a key but I never found a boot!
