Charge Temperatures

Hello folks,
I have recently purchased a Lascar digital temperature gauge and k-type fine-wire thermocouple. I mounted the thermocouple at the exit of the intercooler, just before the throttle butterfly.

Firstly, is this the correct location to measure charge temperature?
Secondly, What readings should I be seeing on a WRX03 PPP with STi filter?
Thirdly, where is the best place to install a thermocouple to measure intake temperature? Just before the MAF?

Thanks :)

Yes just before throttle butterfly is good, either in the air box or before maf is good for intake etc..

anywhere between same as at intake + couple of degrees upto 60degrees depending on whether moving or sitting in traffic.

It should drop fairly quickly as you move off after sitting in traffic.

Hi, yes, correct location for thermocouple. On hot summer days ( 30 degrees ) I was getting readings of 30 deg. at a steady 4k revs (100 mph ). Readings will go as high as 65 deg. in traffic, just a matter of driving gently afterwards for a minute or two 'til they get back under 40. Obviously not a good idea to use the car hard with high readings, cheers, Andy.

Thanks people,

I had been getting "sensible" readings for a while, but things started going pear shaped when I saw 70+ and the reading would jump 10 degrees when I switched on the side lights  and another 10 when I switched on the headlights! I have now put heatshrink on the full length of the thermocouple cable as I think the very thin insulation may have worn away against the intercooler under the rubber pipe.

Do I need to shield the cable against electrical noise with wire braid?
Thanks again.

I didn't pick up any noise on the K type. I suggest the Lascar power supply to be the problem. My temp gauge is batt powered an I don't have any odd readings and the TC is in the same place.
