warmer weather - can i turn up the boost?
 

The charge density is much less now with warmer weather. As long as i provide adequate cooling and check for knock, can i turn up the boost a bit to compensate for this and still be within safety margins of winter when charge density is high?

Car is MY94 WRX wagon (no temperature sensor, I believe, on this old banger).

I would say that it is better the other way round, the cooler the air, the more boost you are able to run

I see what your'e saying and that does seem logical.

I was surprised when my car got MORE det prone in very cold weather. Found out it was due to slightly higher boost and also because the air was denser, more oxygen molecules being compressed.

I guess my question can be broken down:

1) if your boost drops a bit in warm weather (1psi), is it worth adjusting the boost control to up it a tad.

2) Because of the less dense air, can the desired boost target be raised (say from 16psi to 18psi) due to the fact that there is less oxgen so less fuel will be needed and less overall compression of air (?)

Really it is not worth doing, Your turbo will be working harder to compress less dense air & will generate more heat, Making the Charge hotter & more chances of det , Plus will probably slow the car down further than it would leaving it where it is set.
