my scoobys died.

i wrote my subaru off yesterday, considering wat happened we are lucky to have come away with out a scratch, but anyway, im now thinking wat to do next, id like another one, like the one i had a my99 turbo but cant really afford it, so was thinking get a slighlty cheaper 93, 94 turbo with a blown engine or something similiar, as i think my engine is still good, and put that in it, along with the interior and any other bits that will go/ are still useable, its either that or break the car up and sell for bits, wat do you reckon?? how do the earlier ones differ from my my99? thanks

Paulo P 15 May 2005 05:45 PM

Sorry to hear that :(

What sort of damage did you do to yours? Heavy front impacts can break the cam pulleys because of where they are and wreck an engine :(

Scoobs are damn strong cars to crash though :thumb: They may be made of tin foil but in an accident they hold up better than most things you could mention.

peter22 15 May 2005 05:58 PM

lost the back end i think got it straight, hit a telegraph pole with the front corner which spun it round and on it to its roof and in to a dyke. the front cross member and wats left of the battery is v nearly touching the cam cover, but not quite, evey panel is dented, the drivers side piller between the doors is pushed in to the seat, all windows that side gone, window screen cracked, the edge of the roof above the doors is is all pushed in, one alloy is buggered, the back wheel is bent outwards where its bent the shock and pulled the drive shalf from the diff. thats about it so far.....

Paulo P 15 May 2005 06:02 PM

Is that all :eek2:

peter22 15 May 2005 06:09 PM

yeah nothing major, at least im still here, lol

They are good and strong like that :)

Were you only third party then?

peter22 15 May 2005 06:26 PM

stupidly yes only third party fire and theft so not looking to good. have got some pics but dont no how to post them up

Paulo P 15 May 2005 06:29 PM

Mail 'em to me and I'll host and post :D

Bummer about your insurance :( At least you can reshell it into an older one :D

Luminous 15 May 2005 06:40 PM

Jesus, sounds like you had a lucky escape from a nasty accident. I've no idea about how new bits fit in an older car :( Best to cost it all up, and then see what you think you can get from breaking your current machine. You may end up better off from breaking the car you have, not sure....

Not wanting to sound harsh, but 3rd party is not the best cover for a scooby :( If you can afford it, go for fully comp next time.

Really glad to hear that you are OK, and nobody else was hurt.

peter22 15 May 2005 06:47 PM

me email gone up the swanny ill try to post them up

OUCH!! There really is very little that you did not dent.

Well, as my Dad always says "If something is worth doing, its worth doing well". !!

peter22 15 May 2005 07:43 PM

im just glad im still here to laugh and cry a bout it, cry mostly. £215 to get it from the dyke to my houe, which is 5 miles, and i have to buy a new telegraph pole....

Luminous 15 May 2005 07:53 PM

You're 3rd party cover should pay for the telegraph pole?

Actually, I think I have spotted a bit you have missed. The front right indicator looks to be OK. Cannot tell for certain from here :p

I must say, your attitude is commendable. The first time I wrote off a car, there was nothing anyone could say to me.

Paulo P 15 May 2005 07:57 PM

It's probably cheaper to pay for the pole than lose your no claims I guess.

peter22 15 May 2005 08:04 PM

dont get me wrong i gutted i havent had it long, but like ive been told its only a bit of metal that can be replaced, im just looking on the positive side that im still here, it the first time ive crashed a car,

ps the drivers side? indicator is ok.lol
my prodrive spots and spoiler werent though.

richee 15 May 2005 08:16 PM

Sorry for u mate same thing happened to me 2 years ago only had it 4 days. got my new one 4 weeks ago had to wait that long for insurence to go down. one good thing for me made me more careful on the road think twice now before i but my foot down.

Luminous 15 May 2005 08:22 PM

You are bound to be gutted, especially given your circumstances. I've been unlucky in the past and have been involved in more than one write off. The first one took me months to get over. Some numpty fitted the wrong front brakes, ended up taking both left wheels off my car :(

Just take it easy when you get your new car. Get some professional tution in your new machine, it really is worth every penny. Good luck in getting things sorted, hope it all works out OK for you.

peter22 15 May 2005 08:25 PM

cheers bud.

It's always sad to see these things happen to out beloved cars, and more so when on tpf&t insurance......
There's gotta be quite a few grands worth of bit's there worth selling though..... do I spot Alcons????? Not that I want them.... but someone would!!

Dream Weaver 15 May 2005 11:05 PM

Shame to see it, but at least you survived.

Surprised they let you have TPFT on a 99 model car, usually mandatory FC on anything over £5k value. I'd advise getting FC cover on the next one.

ben1413 16 May 2005 04:48 PM

I hit a lamp post when I had a Rover 216 GTi. Thought it wouldn'y be too expensive but £1150 later, I wish I claimed on my insurance!
