Classic PPP Vs Newage WRX PPP

Just been having a sniff around the Subaru site and nosing at their PPP special offer for new models. Looking at a WRX (225 ps, about 220 bhp) the power hikes up to 265 ps (about 260 bhp.)

Digging out an old guide for the MY99/00 UK Turbo, it states that a PPP would upgrade a Classic to 240 ps (about 237 bhp.) If my memory serves me right, in tip-top standard form the Classics push out 215 ps, or 212 bhp (or at least that's what Subaru advised.)

Just wondering whether the Classic flavour of the PPP is still as conservative, or whether those who pop along now get more power for their money than if they had back in 1999/2000..?

I'm just curious.

Very different treatment of the ECU in the recent PPP than the old classic PPP - the new ones are effectively fitted with Prodrive's own special "Ecutek" map, whereas the earlier ones were less sophisticated. Therefore, I'd suggest the power difference is real. Don't forget however that the classic has significantly less weight to haul along, being ~20-25bhp down won't actually make it slower.

The original bugeye PPP was also 245PS (IIRC), as the "ecutek" version didn't come out until ~2003 IIRC. I believe the 265PS kit can now be fitted the 01/02 cars (Orginal bugeye 218PS/215bhp, but the 7PS less was down to a less good ECU map)

In my experience the average output from PPP cars on rolling road days is usually less than the quoted power output, so perhaps "as conservative" is not the correct term to use.

I had an 02 WRX PPP on the rollers just after me once, my car being a modded 03 WRX, mine made 268 bhp for considerably more expense than his did for the 1600 he paid for the PPP, and he got 264 bhp from his WRX. That is one rolling road i left with one big sulking bottom lip i can tell ya! LOL.
