Water temp sensor - intermittant readings?

Where is it located on a MY95, the one the ECU sees?

The water temp on my Apexi will suddenly see 20 - 22 degC when the rad is at 90, putting it into cold idle which makes it tick over at 2krpm, running very rich.

What could cause this to happen?

Air lock?
loom?
sensor?

It can be fine for days at a time, then all of a sudden it runs like a dog :(

help!

Airlock would be my first thought, but does also sound like sensor problem.

Sensor is located on the water cross pipe, you know the one under the inlet manifold we removed the other week ;)

Rob

p.s. it is the two wire orange plug jobbie
