Civic ESi engines - how long....

....do they last?

Do you think a 140k civic may be on its way out, or do they cover 200k+ normally? Just wondering, as I've seen quite a nice one, but it's a higher mileage than I had in mind.....

It's got full service history though:)

Any thoughts?
Ta:).

Make your decision based on the overall appearance of the car.
- Straight bodywork (dints in doors acceptable)
- Engine/gearbox not noisy and doesn't use (too much) oil.

Its a honda! If its been well looked after it should not be a problem. Just check all the usual things as mentioned above.

That's what I was thinking. I was wondering more as to whether 140k was high in Honda terms, or about average...... Thanks anyway though.

That said, I think maybe I'll resort back to my original plan of a Primera GT:) They're a little less complicated, and they're also cheaper:)

Pay particular attetntion to the exhaust, brakes and suspension, everything else is pretty much bomb proof. The ESi is a Vtec engine, and is therefore the strongest part of the car, but they do need regular servicing, as this is an engine that will rev to over 7000rpm.

The engine should be good for 200K miles. I know a few people with civic Type-Rs that put 120K miles on them and they were perfect. These engines get faster with more miles, as they loosen up!!

Well i thrashed mine to within an inch of it's life for around 30k miles from 20k onwards and i know the current owner has now just clicked over 150k and has never had a major mechanical problem with it yet. Sadly the bodwork has seen better days tho. It was polished every week with me.

Awesome cars.....i bought a Vti of the same age to replace it.
