Zombie wasps!!!

I killed a jasper this morning, gave it a good whack, stunned it then cut off its 'head'

Left it on the floor cos I'm lazy.

Just noticed that 5 hours later it has come back to life and is now crawling in a circle and trying to fly!!!!!

Jap2Scrap 12 May 2005 03:57 PM

Tease it with some jam on a string...

Oh, hang on, no head = no nose.. won't be able to smell it obviously...

MJW 12 May 2005 04:00 PM

Put it in a matchbox, wrap a photo round it and put it on the skull of a dog !
(this may not make sense to people who haven't read any Iain Banks books !)

Well, I would have said it was a northern thing but then I noticed Edcase had a location of Bristol which isn't exactly in the north!!!!!

Did you purposely go and get a cutting implement to do this or did you have one to hand anyway!!:)

scoob_babe 12 May 2005 06:23 PM

I've managed to cut one in half with a knife as it was flying around me when I was eating lunch outside!! :D

Deffo not a northern thing exclusively. I'm a Southampton boy and Jasper was the in word for wasps when I was a teen (1983-1989) :D

wwp8 12 May 2005 07:19 PM

scoob_babe 12 May 2005 08:16 PM

Do you know, I tried to squash it while it was stunned with the nearest thing to hand, which was the end of an A4 notepad, but somehow I missed the body, and just the wire rings caught its 'neck' and off it came! I very much thought it was dead til 5 hours later I noticed it trying to fly :Suspiciou

It soon got tired of that!

A lot of the basic bodily functions are controlled by the insect's sub-oesophageal ganglion - a kind of mini-brain. Insects have several ganglia of this type, distributed through the body. The body doesn't really need the head except to navigate, recognise danger, and find and eat food. :D

They don't have lungs either; the air gets directly into the body through tiny branched cavities in the abdomen. :)

What a fountain :notworthy :D

I've got one of them, it always seems to come into play when I am a passenger in somebody elses car, or have to go into a meeting where females are present.

Advertise it on E-Bay under "Zombie Wasp, Not Subaru, Evo, etc..."!

I've never heard of it and I'm about as Northern as you can get without being Scottish...

Abdabz 13 May 2005 10:46 AM

Its the month of May. Wasps dont exist in May. Therefore it must have been a bluebottle in disguise. (I have a significant fobia for Jaspers and appear to be in denial).
:)

ALi-B 13 May 2005 10:54 AM

In the beer garden last summer, as usual being pestered by the odd wasp hovering round our pints, so I slammed my pint glass down on one and got its stinger bit (the stripey yellow and black bit), tearing it off.

It crawled on the table for a bit before flying off again

We wern't so bothered about it after that...seeing that it lost its sting :D
