Do you have experience of 182's..?

Saying that the 02wrx is the slowest model ever produced. Instead of spending monet making your car look like an STI you should have made it go like an STI. Sheep in wolf's clothing.

When my 05 was standard 182's could be a PITA but definately not quicker..! Now my TEK 3 etc has been done they wouldn't stand a chance;)..!

Not worried about a clio. Just that it would have been more cost effective to have bought an sti initially, than to have got a wrx and be spending lots (over time) on go faster bits. I'm enjoying getting the car how I want it, but you never get that money back at resale.

i was impatient when i bought my MY02 WRX PPP as i was desperate to sell my old celica GT4...i wish id waited but i had a buyer there and then, so needed a replacement and although i love my WRX to bits, i wish id waited and gone for a MY03 STi...

I had an STi with PPP for over 2 years but when it came to replace it I opted for a 5 door WRX with PPP and the Prodrive springs. Its the best of all worlds, 262BHP (same as the standard Sti), decent handling with the uprated springs but without being harsh and I can carry a fridge in the back at 150mph (if I had the inclination).

The Sti attracted too much Chav attention. The ride was a bit hard for comfortable day-to-day use, especially since it seems the council have obviously decided to stop maintaining the excuse for roads round here (Herts).

All in all a WRX with PPP and springs is a good all round package.

I won't be going cback to the STi (unless they bring out a 5 door)

a std WRX is not vey quick... well a 182 Clio will out run you all day

sorry mate by spend silly money on your 05 ( loosing your warrenty and making it harder to sell/insure) just proves you should have bought the STI

trust me after spending 30k plus on my bug eye.. and it goes slightly ;) quicker then a sti

if you want a fast car BUY A STI unless you want a 450bhp + scoob when a wrx might be a option

ps my wrx is still of the road after ANOTHER problem that i have to fix my self because i have no warranty and the car is at STI speeds with out STI quality

I would sell it tomorrow if I could get half what I spent on it - but im only young and I can put it down to being young and stupid

Boy do I know that feeling, 7 months ago I went to test drive a 2005MY STI for sale as a dealer demo car. It had so many extra’s it was £500 more than a new car so the old brain could not quite handle that idea. At the same time I saw a new last of the 2004MY WRX with Prodrive 18” wheels, spoiler, lights front and rear and a few more extra’s. I bought that car over the phone later in the day.



After run in and fitting of a PPP it was a stunning car but the PPP showed the brakes up as not really safe for the performance. I also wanted the lower ride height and a slight stiffening so Prodrive springs were the probably answer. Add to that the fact I never exactly loved the 5 speed box and I was looking at spending £2k plus for brakes and suspension, with no fix for the 5 speed.



Answer for me came with the free PPP on new STi; big brakes, the 6 speed box and the 2005 chassis. Best move I ever made with a car. The WRX is really a nicer day to day car in many ways but the ’05 STi with Prodrive springs is my dream car :)

I have a MY01 WRX - and I'm beginning to want a bit more. My wife wants us to get a STi next - but on balance I would probably go for a WRX with PPP for a good compromise between relative comfort and a bit more low down torque. The WRX is sometimes seems a bit slow especially when the aircon is on - other times it's brilliant. I have to say I loved driving the works Focus TDi precisely because of the sudden torque rush.

I`ve got a bug wrx at the moment i`m happy with it , not bothered that it can be beaten by a 182 in real terms. Not really interested in the lower gearing of the STI as I like to cruise comfortably on the motorway. And if I ever have the urge to upgrade to something quicker. I`m afraid it would be a Legacy B4 RSK. All the performance of an STI with better comfort and cruising than WRX. If i`d of wanted to be shaken to bits in a high performance car i`d of bought a cheap diesel for general running about in and then bought a caterham for blasts around the country at the weekend. But then again themain criteria for my cars is the ability to put two 6 metre kayaks on the roof with all the associated stuff I need to race over a weekend. It would be a tight squeeze in a clio.

I have a 2004 wrx ppp saloon because my wife hated the look of the STI. Now that I've got decent suspension on it (HSD coil overs) I'm happy apart from the brakes. They are inadequate for a car with nearly 300 bhp and quite honestly scare me sometimes! They will be the next thing I sort (still don't know if I'm going to put 18"s on it or keep the standard wheels) but other than this I'm really happy. Might even take the boot spoiler off and replace with a 3 series sport lip one!? Still haven't found a standard STI that see me off.
For what I wanted the STI is just a bit too in your face.

No because they don't do blob wagons with heated leather and elec sunroof and practicality , so I've just engine modded mine, only thing it's missing is a six speed box but who cares.

Lol, that's nothing, i saw one from 2002 the other day, it's a good thread though.

Personally i love my blob WRX PPP Wagon with AP 4 pots, and after reading this i think it might have prodrive springs as well:D goes, stops and handles well enough with slight mods and geo, and as someone else said i can get a fridge in the back along with other bits and bobs should the need arise, i cant think of any other vehicle that has 4wd, 5 doors goes like stink and costs £3/4k.

Besides everyone knows if you want a proper STI it has to be a classic.:thumb:

As above, wagons rule. Proper Q car. Got to remember that those guys were paying top dollar for their cars back in 2005, often under warranty.

I see people were moaning about fuel costs back then!

In 2005 SUL was around 90p per litre, if only they knew what was going to happen! :eek:

My son has a Wr1 so a WRX was never gonna cut it so I bought an Sti with PPP. What a fantastic car, goes like stink, stops on a sixpence. I love the power delivery and the way it handles, still learning the limit but if it does break away it is easy to reign back in.
I test drove a couple of wrx's, one with PPP which was very good. I drove a standard sti which I liked, it had coil overs which was a better ride, but the sti with PPP was the one I wanted and after test driving one I bought it straight away.
Haven't looked back and have no regrets, everytime I drive it it puts a smile on my face, if your going to mod a wrx save the money and buy a STI, better base to start and already got the big brakes, six speed and stronger engine.

I've got a 6speed box with brembos all round on my wrx :norty:

Seriously if I knew more about imprezas before I bought mine it would of been a spec c or at least a widetrack blob :cuckoo::lol1:

I'm still driving my WRX, but really wish I'd bought a STi from the outset - the only WRX bit of mine left is the rear brakes!

Drove an 06 sti and a lightly modded 56 wrx back to back and I went for the wrx they are completely different cars.

Oh well if I upset people but I felt the sti was a cheaper feeling car to drive everything about it felt harsh ride was to ruff for every day driving which made the body vibrate and clatter on the country roads I tested on power delivery was too in your face soon as the turbo kicked in and the cabin was bare of goodies.

The wrx for me was the obvious choice it looks the more expensive of the two it had the heated leather seats, sunroof, fog lights near enough the same power as the sti but smoother power delivery the ride was stiff but not spine shattering it has the high spoiler and cheaper so gave me some spare monies for alloys and more engine mods.

And also my wife refused to get in the sti again as it hurt her tits lol.
