STI7 Scoop on 02 WRX
does anyone know how much work it would be to fit the above scoop to my 02 WRX, i have been told by Subaru that it would be a good mod to do,
Any advice on this matter would be great, power increase aside they look so much better. |
Power increase? - I think not. The only reason for changing the scoop is for aesthetics (sp). To swap them is a simple matter of undoing 6 nuts and replacing the WRX with the STi scoop.
I personally went for an STi 8 scoop - look far better IMO. If you want a power increase, get yourself a full de-cat and Tek 3 ;) |
As above....... the STi7 scoop is a straight swap for the MY02 WRX :D
However, the OEM STi8 (blobeye) scoop does not fit the MY02 wrx because the bonnets are different. You have to buy a "copy" STi8 scoop made to fit the earlier cars. I thought about the Jap Innovations one last :) Midlife..... |
Not again.....
An STi8 scoop will fit straight onto an 02WRX. What won't fit is an STi9 (03MY), STi10 (04MY) or STi11 (05MY) scoop Mike |
Hi Mike
Aplogies.........where is Greasemonkey when you need him :) LOL In "slang" terms what I meant to say was a "Blobeye" STi scoop will not fit a "Bugeye" WRX. Cheers Shaun |
Midlife,
I understood what you meant :) |

That's why we shouldn't use the STi(number) system as it is confusing...... Mike |
so mike... whats the lastest on the STi 12 ???
|
hey only quoting what i was told by the man at subaru, he said due to the increase of air flowing onto my i/c it would work more efficiently.
And they do look great.... |
Apart from agreeing with Mike on the STi numbering system . . . (not that Mike or Prodrive in general should really care whether I agree with them or not ;) )
I believe that where there is a potential for power increase is if you're fitting a bigger TMIC - be it from a bugeye/blobeye STi or other large aftermarket TMIC (APS, MRT, hyperflow etc). These give lower pressure drop and potentially better charge cooling. They also tend to have improved charge cooling if fitted with a larger scoop, which generally gives slightly higher safety margins (det resistance). However, whilst you'd notice the difference fitting a better TMIC, you probably need to be monitoring things to notice any difference from just changing the scoop; definitely won't be a big change! |
cheers, not sure if its worth the money just for looks alone, but hey, pay day soon
|
just checked and it is actually an sti8 scoop, i was told the bonnet needed to be modified a little. might take a chance on it and get it anyway.
