Did you actually fill in the form to get on the electoral roll? Did you get sent a polling card?

Wish 05 May 2005 08:52 PM

Filled out the form, as did the wife. But never got the cards through. We were only saying the other day that the cards haddnt turned up

just suppose someone registered you for postal voting and obtained the postal ballot papers, then sent them back as if you had voted by post.

That way, your vote has been used and so you wouldn't get a polling card nor would you be on the register / lists at the polling station!

Makes you wonder!

Bob

PS. There was a story in the papers not long ago about a labour councillor being jailed for filling in other peoples postal ballot papers. He got a jail sentence for it. Proves it can be done!

Also with a conservative councellor

Im not on the electoral role either. Havent been for a while, but to vote today you had to register in March, I think, if you werent already on the role.

SiDHEaD 06 May 2005 06:44 AM

Some places were accepting passport ID instead of the cards.. But i spose if you werent on the list...

Wish 06 May 2005 09:01 AM

Yep took my passport and driving licence but they were having none of it.

Mariella Frostrup (?sp) and the guy presenting the Today show on R4 both turned up to vote (not together!) to be told that according to the records they'd registered as postal voters and therefor couldn't vote. Neither of them had registered as a postal voter.

Makes you wonder how many places that happened - and what effect it had on the result - especially as so many seats were won or lost on a few hunderd votes. I'm sure it wouldn't have changed the overall result - but it could have affected some local seats.

Wasn't there some place where the queues were so long that they truned people away at 10pm. Just closed the doors and told those still waiting to go away?
