MY00 215/35/18 or 225/35/18 Tyres?

I have 18" OZ Superlegs, and i need new tyres after a blow out the other weekend. I used to run 215/35/18 and i always thought that the ride was a birt too hard, then i remembered that the P1 came with 225/35/18. Anyone else tried both sizes?

I am just about to buy 4 new boots for my MY00 with 18" SuperL's.

I am wondering exactly the same thing and also if anyone fancies a group buy, maybe Toyo T1Rs or F1s ???

Anyone?

I need to get my 18's back on the car ASAP :D

I ran 225/40/18's on my RB5 (18" P1 Oz wheels).

Now running 215/35/18's. Can't say I've noticed a big difference in ride quality. 18's have always felt harsh. Passengers haven't commented either since the new tyres went on.

The tyre fitter commented that the 225's seemed to fit the rim better and that the 215's seemed a little stretched. Not much but he said it might feel a bit different.

Can't say I've really noticed a big change although the Hankook tyres aren't the greatest in the wet and much noisier than my Goodyears. Dry grip is much the same.

Next time I'll probably go with the 225/35's.

Stefan

Cheers Stefan :D

I think i shall be going for a set of 225/35 tyres.

Now it is just that age old choice of which tyre to go for

ozzy 11 May 2005 12:19 PM

I'd stick with what you know. I didn't like Toyo's, Pirelli's or my Hankooks in the wet (all of them are much the same in the dry), but the new Goodyear GSD-3's are the best I've tried so far in both.

If I could justify the cost I'd be tempted to try the Michellin Pilot Sports.

I've only run with Toyo T1S's on the 18's and on my 17's I have only had P-Zero's and a set of T1S's. I haven't tried the F1's out.

I have however just seen the price of 225/35 tyres :eek2: that will be about £650 for a set of 4 fully fitted then!

ozzy 11 May 2005 12:26 PM

where from? MyTyres or Elite Direct have been the cheapest.

Maybe that's the reason I went for 225/40's and then 215/35's :)

My Hankooks were £320

IanW 11 May 2005 12:28 PM

That was from Black Circles fully fitted.

IanW 11 May 2005 12:32 PM

Just checked MYTyres they are about £115 a corner unfitted.

7 Foot 11 May 2005 12:47 PM

I ended up buying 4 Toyo T1Rs 215/35/18 from Mytyres for £351.60

IanW 11 May 2005 12:55 PM

How do you find the T1R's?

7 Foot 11 May 2005 12:59 PM

They've not been delivered yet.

Will keep you posted if you haven't already made you decision by the time I get to try them.

I currently run 225 40 18's (Prodrive WRC-1's) on a MY99 - standard suspension. With 2 people in the back I get rubbing on the arches, but only on very tight turning i.e. in multi-storey car parks.

I've been advised that if I am going to lower the car (on Eibachs) I should get 215 35 18's otherwise it will rub.

IanW 12 May 2005 03:18 PM

I'm lowered on Prodrive Suspension etc...

I might well stick with 215/35 then?
