205 GTi 1.6 engine options (conversion)

Does anyone know the best place for a upgrade on my track day 1.6 GTi - Mi16 appears to be very popular, but I am am not sure of the cost/best route to go for?

Cost per bhp, the Mi16 is the way forward mate. Otherwise its gas flowing etc but the Mi is still the best bang per buck :)

Make sure you do all the other bits for a track day car before upgrading the engine.
A stripped out 1.6 will be nearly a match for a more powerful mi16 and being lighter the brakes and suspension work better. Losing 100kg, adding slicks/upgraded suspension will gain you so much even on a 1.6.
If you've ever driven a trackday with stockhatch 205s around, you're be shocked how well they go for a 1.6.

Thanks Guys.

My 1.6 needs some minor work done to it to rectify some water leaks and oil leaks, together with some other bits. I just wondered if a 1.9 conversion would be the better way forward - I am very limited on what can be done to the engine for the Road Modified Class in hillclimbs.

Car is part prepared to 750 MC specification, just need to sort out the power, as the current engine feels a bit "flat".

I am checking on the 205GTi Driver's Forum as well.

Will let you know outcome :D

Well a 1.9 8v unit will see around ~150bhp with cam's, gas flowing etc.

Blackscooby is the one you should talk to as he stayed on the 8v route for his hill climb car...........

Scooby Jawa

Thanks for that - sourced a low mileage 1.9 engine (+ ECU) today (cheap as well), so am going for this.

With the car being stripped of all the interior + only one lightweight seat, the more powerful engine should suit my needs perfectly (for now).
