fcuking postal vote con
 

I have a job that involves driving. I'm regularly away from home for long periods as a result.

I got in for the first time in 3 weeks at 5:30 today, to find my poling card and instructions informing me of how to apply for a postal vote and that I've missed the deadline by half an hour. I phone them up and they don't care.

I'm not going to be in Liverpool on May 5th and thanks to the unreasonably short time window I now can't vote.

Yet another way that Labour is attacking the motorist.

Any suggestions for getting a vote in that don't involve taking a day off work and coming home?

Same as lots of Military Service people apparently.
Don't worry, someone might have applied for and got your postal vote anyway.
A BBC reporter has done this and there is to be a programme. Think it might be Radio 4.
Just caught it mentioned on Radio 2.

Proxy vote deadline was the same as the postal vote deadline.
And yes it is labour attacking the motorist, admittedly they're attacking other groups too (Truckers, oil rig workers etc.) in previous elections I'm sure I remember getting the cards months in advance, this one was a maximum of 3 weeks which is stupid, some people have holidays that are longer than that (not me though, I'm virtually penniless thanks to Labour)
I guess I could sell my poll card on ebay. The Lib Dems are going to get in again here anyway :(

Everyone can vote, you just have to be pro-active about it and sort yourself out in a timely fashion .....

That's all very nice, except the information I needed was on the polling card, which means I can only access it when I am actually at home which is, at most, one or two nights a month.

They tried internet voting in my ward a few years back, we were still stuck with this archaic system of receiving the info in the post, but they got it to us about a month and a half before election day and it had all the passwords and everything needed to vote, it was great, they even provided a mechanism for spoiling your ballot paper.

This time the card hasn't arrived until the last minute and unfortunately I'm not at home every day like a dole scrounging chav (or a retired old Labour-supporting git :P ) The window for application was far too short. What about the long-distance lorry drivers who could be away for a month if they're delivering to Russia or something.

In this day and age where the postal system is falling to bits and is rife with corruption and fraud, why can't the government just email the details to me so that I can read it from anywhere, yes there's ways to intercept email but there's ways to intercept post too so it makes bugger all difference.

Get your neighbour to take your card to the polling station and vote for you - I don't know what you're worried about anyway as if your NOT voting Labour its a wasted vote! :D

They cant check your id at the polling station (seriously- thay cant, they arent allowed to)

so get someone who votes in the morning to nip round just before they close on your behalf and vote for you..........

The chav couple in the flat above mine who have rows at 3 in the morning with much stomping about until my CD pile falls over and eventually the police turn up, yet regularly complain that my TV or alarm clock are too loud.

Or how about the one next door with the, erm, multicultural toddlers (as in, one from each culture)

I doubt either would be impressed with my political opinions and I dont trust either of them.

I have a similar problem. Our polling cards didn't arrive until yesterday afternoon so couldn't register for proxy or postal voting and I'm away on holiday for the election. My local (Labour) MP has recieved an e-mail expressing my displeasure.
