Anyone still got a record deck?
Personally,i still believe they sounded better than cd..........if you still have one look here
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...720455940&rd=1 Unclebuck will like this........ |
Just a couple!!!
http://tinypic.com/4kbqqt (bit of a tip at the moment- waiting for new mixer and some other stuff) Those records are boot sale fodder..........probably some interesting stuff in there |
Yup :)
Wouldn't get rid of it for anything. Though the guy in the "Hi-Fi" section at Alders wondered why on earth I'd want a phono input on the amp when it had a CD built in  That's why Hi-Fi is in quotes. Serves me right for trying a department store... |
LOL, got a fair old pile of those myself. I'm slowly selling them off one by one on Ebay. Some fetch pretty good money too. For example, I have a mono pressing of The Yellow Submarine album that should sell for around the £2-350 mark

Nah better off the other way Freak surely, buy at boot sale and then sell on ebay all the boot sales I have been to (not that many as I get pi$$ed off) people want to pay as little possible for everything and you can sell stuff for much money.
While Ive got you I know you sell records, Ive got a collection of late 80s early 90s dance 12" US Import records and I was wondering if they are worth anything now? cheers Gary |
Have got 2 turntables and a mixer too!!!!!!!:D
|
yes probably some gems in there worth some cash- some early 90s stuff is highly sought after.
what i meant was, its the type of stuff you see in abundance at boot sales week in week out. Stuff thats not particuarly valuable or rare- but you find the odd gem in. Back to the other point, vinyl gives a better sound than cd- technical fact. Cant stand cds myself- the fact that i only own a few thousand cds as opposed to 15000+ records kind of demonstrates that :lol1: |
Looks a bit like my LP collection. I recently borrowed a machine to clean them. It took me a fortnight to clean over a 1000 LPs. Well worth the effort as most sound like new again!
I have a Linn LP12, which I have recently upgraded. 1. Replaced Linn motor and Valhalla power supply with Origin Live DC motor and outboard power supply. 2. Replaced Linn Akito arm with Origin Live Encounter arm. 3. Treated myself to a Koetsu Black. It sounds absolutely fabulous. The Origin Live kit is excellent and good value. I am playing all my LPs again. Also it's prompted me to buy new vinyl where available. Long live vinyl! |

Also use LP12 with Lingo power supply, Naim Aro arm, Audio-Technica OC9 cartridge :thumb: |
Hell yeah! and i've the the record shop reciepts and debt to prove it!
love my technics, but one of em's busted at the mo, got a bit carried away mixing whilst drunk and spilt Vodka all over it (it didnt like that!) now plays at all kinds of speeds! makes beat matching a bit tricky! fear it might need to be completely replaced :( |

I wish vinyl had stayed around longer though so I would have had an excuse to upgrade my Rega Planar 3 to a Michell Gyrodeck :( http://www.positive-feedback.com/Iss...es/michell.jpg |
could you imagine turning up at the post office to send them !!:)
|
Thats a nice auction, is that! :)
|
wez- clean it.
Open it right up and clean it throughout. Should fix it no problem. They are bomb proof. Oh- and 96k 24bit sample rate still doesnt compete with a pure waveform unrestricted by sample rate. :p |
I am sure it sounds wonderful but come on, records are a pain in the arse, for a start they are huge, wont play in the car and you have to have one of the most fiddly pieces of reproduction equipment known to man, weights, pulleys and you cant walk near it in case it throws a wobbler, forget it, the new Compact Cassette from Phillips is where its at....
I am just jealous really as my wife objects to any kind of musical equipment, why on anyone really need TWO speakers, ridiculous you can hear it perfectly well through one really small tinny one. |
pacenote,
This is what I used to clean my LPs. http://www.vpiindustries.com/16_5.htm I borrowed it off a mate. I suppose the Moth machine would also do a good job. |
i love my vinal!
|
Are my 78's worth anything??

Depends on whether you want your living room to look like Dixons !
I am waiting on doing an extension, this frees up the garage, that will then be my AV/Cinema room, even the wife is quite keen, just not allowed any speakerage in the other two lounges, well she does seem to be relenting, I have 2 sets of reasonable speakers in the loft (another possible AV room) sat doing nothing, its a shame. Actually if anyone has a Hi Fi amp of some description they have sat doing nowt., PM me as with the speakers (Tannoy 605's and Rega EL8's) and my Sansui CD player I would have a basic Hi Fi again, cant spend much following several car related disasters and an electronics purchase embargo. The rest of my stuff is for sale, well all the crappy bits http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...ayphotohosting The Techincs amp at the bottom was my foray into AV a few years back and not worth using as anything you want to call hi-fi, the rest a motley assortment of clutter. |

I run a Michell Orbe with Origin live Silver Taper and Ortofon Rohmann.
Record Decks Rule! |

I still have a 15 year old Manticore Mantra/Logic Datum 2/AT-F5 which was the best turntable I could afford after a few weeks of Summer work as a student. It's not been used for years though, bought an Arcam Alpha 9 CD player back in 1999 which just blew it away and is still going strong.

2 cheap up grades for the Linn.
Dump the felt mat and get yourself a Grunge Buster mat from the states. Also get some Duruma 3 isolation bearings for under the plinth. |

The current plan is to convert the cellar into a kitchen, freeing up around 450 sq/ft for a double living room with the AV in it, then convert the loft as a chillout room with the quality hi-fi in. Money is the only stumbling block  I'd estimate we'd need £20k to do all the works, and we ain't got it :( |
