Is there a difference between these spoilers. I can't see it! ??

scooby-tc 17 April 2005 09:50 PM

The version 6 spoiler has a slightly raised angled lip on the top whereas the v5 spoiler is relitavely flat

jay_bee,

correct me if i am wrong... but that looks like a v6 spoiler????

Jay_bee 21 April 2005 05:15 PM

Ok, you're wrong. How's that?

;)

Look at the difference in the lip on mine here...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4..._bee_UK/V5.jpg

And then compare that to FMS's...

K9VYN 22 April 2005 07:02 AM

:) from the initial angles, yours looked slightly taller than mine and appeared to have more of a lip.. from the shot above i can see the difference more clearly ;)

also worth considering i guess is the mould from which the spoilers were made. if yours is a genuine Subaru sourced part, that could be the difference - the angle of incline on the top section of your spoiler is more prominent then mine. did yours come with clear led brake light...? i wouldn't mind that to match my tail lights.

looking at all of the spoilers above... there are differences between them (even between the same versions). some have the brake light against the bootlid, like mine (which i thought was standard???) and some don't, like yours!

Jay_bee 22 April 2005 08:52 AM

Well, mine is a genuine STi Type R and I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be a genuine Subaru spoiler. Yes, it came from Japan like that, the previous owner had spent alot on genuine STi upgrades, so I suppose it could be an option. I'll have a look later when I get home, I have a couple of STi catalogues and jap subaru brochures that came with the car.

Anyway, here's a closer pic for you..

cheers Jay_bee :),

mine was purchased from TSL and is obviously a copy (but from what?). not that it really matters, but it'd be interesting to find out why some have the brake light mounted higher than others. might possibly help reas334 decide which one he wants to get!

I've just been looking at some other's and it seems like there are more V6's with that type of light arrangement. Im just wondering whether or not because mine is a late MY99 it got the same bottom section that the V6's got? Just a theory :freak3: LOL.

I should be able to check anyway, as the Subaru brochures I have are for the WRX STi Limited models MY99/00

I probably wont be able to post my findings until Monday as my laptop cabbaged and so needs formatting but Im too lazy to get round to sorting it out :D

K9VYN 22 April 2005 09:52 AM

no worries, no rush.... it's just interesting is all ;)

Jay_bee 25 April 2005 04:40 PM

I've had a look in the brochures, and on both the MY99 type R STi Version 5 Limited and on the MY00 type R STi Version 6 (V) Limited they have the same spoiler as the one on mine with the clear lense raised off the boot lid...

:)

interesting... so perhaps the later version 6 cars had the higher/raised lip on the top of the spoiler maybe??? still doesn't explain Scoobydazza's white v6 spoiler with red brake light against the boot - although as the spoilers come in 2 halves, they have probably been mix & matched.

Jay_bee 26 April 2005 10:38 AM

Sorry, I wasnt very clear on that last one, I was only refering to the bottom section as being the same on the V5 and V6. The lip on the V6 is indeed the larger one. :)
