Are they road legal? Do you have to have tax and insurance, or, is it a grey area like the gopeds (that aren't legal on road or paths)?

Just wondering as a number of these annoying feckin' things have cropped up near us and make an incessant din with their one note exhaust

All IMHO ;) (but would like the legality question answered ;))

:D LOL that looks a laugh, saw these on promotion in a shopping centre recently, anything from 150 quid to 400 quid for different specs.

What puts me off is the worry/expense of having to replace parts/blown engines etc on a regular basis or are they actually a lot more reliable than that?

not legal at all as they don't come with any paperwork other than assembly instructions lol. theoretically you could ride one on the road but you'd have to register one with the dvla and get it roadworthy etc.

i think they're more for carpark fun and meeting up in designated spots for a race. shame that some a ruining the things by racing on paths but there you go.

i don't think they're too bad tbh. mate at work has a ducati replica and has done a fair few miles. no need to worry about the parts though as a replacement engine only costs £20 :D

Hanslow 13 April 2005 01:09 PM

Cheers :) Don't mind them being ridden in the proper places but around 23:30 on the main estate road I was desparately wishing I had a snipers rifle ;) Next time I'll go out and kick him off it, then he can claim it on his virtual insurance :D

Bravo2zero_sps 13 April 2005 01:14 PM

Hope you can run fast to catch him, some of them do upto 70mph lol :o i'd be in full leathers and lid for that speed.

Where's that Scooby96 geezer?

Bravo2zero_sps 13 April 2005 02:34 PM

Haven't seen him on here for ages.

kingofturds 13 April 2005 03:39 PM

mines been in the shed gathering dust for months now although with summer on the way might dust it off soon. only about £110 quid for a cheap one now:)

Bravo2zero_sps 13 April 2005 03:46 PM

How easy are they to wheelie avi? Did the above pic take some practice?

rik1471 13 April 2005 03:53 PM

A load of my mates got them a few months ago. Not heard of anyone who's been on them recently. I knew it was a fad ;)

C 8HEP 13 April 2005 05:29 PM

dont get a cheap one upto £400 they are chinese models with strimmer engines!!!! even the liquid cooled 55mph will just fall to pieces. they are only that quick because of the clutch set to come in at 10.000 rpm. if you want a descent one that is quick and wont fail then get the british models that are exactly the same but have the race port engines 49cc. they are £800 min
