what scoob for 5-7k with high power?!??!

Thinking of buying a scooby, but i only want to spend really between 5 and 7 grand.. also i really would prefer one running about 280+bhp (i.e. an RA) but its hard to find a decent one with low mileage (around 50k)..

Been offered a 92 RA with messed up gearbox and clutch for 5k, but its a bit shifty

any ideas

Thanks guys in advance

Dave

Ill, have a quick stab at this:
Correct me if im worng but the RA was only 240 - 260 ps depending on year

That sounds expensive to me. I have seen 93-94 ones on here going for 4.5K in good order.

unless of course you mean the sti ra which IS about 280 bhp

Dave there are a few very powerful cars with little attention on this forum within ure price range. Just look around mate

There's 2 STI RA's in the for sale section now, both in your range. its very rare that the early ones come up now - and they will still command £5k in a few years time too.

the information i said was only from what i was told by the seller. Apparantly its 280bhp for a 92 K reg WRX Ra.. not an sti.. think he has either got confused with it or something else! has a magnex exhaust, iridium plugs, K&N filter, the IC Water spray.. It is nice.. if thats the case then maybe 240-260bhp will be good to start off with!

hes probably wanting to make it sound better than it is

yeh i spose. wat are the import wrx say 1995 as standard (bhp wise) ?

kilo_4que 12 April 2005 11:57 AM

maybe im wrong but i think they are 260

_dave_ 12 April 2005 12:02 PM

is that the RA or the non ra version? :)

Jay m A 12 April 2005 12:12 PM

WRX's pre 95 were 240PS on 100RON jap fuel, WRX's 95-96 were 260PS. The same spec engine is in the WRX or the WRX RA. The 95-96 STI RA has more power, higher rev limit, DCCD etc. These are the rare ones and when they come up for sale for pretty much the same money, well its a no brainer IMO (which is biassed since I own one!!)

i have a black version 3 sti p reg 280bhp std on its way that i would do for 6k
nice car aswell
just gives you some idea of prices
i would recommend you buy a sti or sti-ra
but make sure its a genuine car not a copy

Hi Dave, just remember the RA's are very low geared,
also Jay can correct me if wrong, not usually with air con, elec windows, erm underseal.

Jay m A 12 April 2005 01:33 PM

Not as standard, no, but quite a few road going RA's do have aircon fitted as a dealer option - usually no electric windows or central locking either. Today I found out no handles above the doors either to hang my suit!! What were they thinking when speccing the Race Altered Imprezas for Rally privateers??!! ;)
