Whats the Difference Between a New Age 5 speed and STI 6 Speed Flywheel

I have been looking for a lightweight flywheel for my STI7 without much luck, is it possible to fit a flywheel from a standard WRX into an STI?

What are the differences between the two if any and could the WRX be altered to suit.

Cheers

Reading the Exedy clutch and flywheel groupbuy, you can but you'll have to fit the 5 speed clutch too. AFAIK, the 6 speed clutch and flywheel are larger than the 5 speed, and of slightly different design so you can't mix and match different clutches and flywheels. Conversely, the the 6 speed clutch and flywheel will not fit the 5 speed gearbox.

If any of that is wrong, I'm sure David at API will put me right :)

I have already bought a 5 blade paddle clutch for a 6 speed so does that mean I'm stuck with a 6 speed flywheel.

Is it the overall dia of the wheel thats different, I assume that would affect the starter motors contact with the wheel or is it the surface area that is in contact with the clutch plate thats different. Will the bolts / locating pins on a 6 speed pressure plate line up with a 5 speed wheel (can the actually be bolted together?)

Does anybody know?

As far as I am aware, the 6 speed cluutch cover will not bolt up to a 5 speed flywheel as the flywheels are a completely different shape. The outer diameter is the same as the flywheel housings are a fixed diameter.

6 speed flywheels have pillars for the clutch to sit up on whereas the 5 speed flywheels are the usual flat thing.

If you've bought a 6 speed specific clutch then you'll need to use the 6 speed pillared flywheel.
