How to delete files in OS X "finder"

How the hell can I delete files via the keyboard in finder? Pressing the del key doesn't work, nor does ctrl & del..?
But right clicking on the file and saying move to trash works fine.

Please somebody help

Cheers

why not just highlight them and drag them to the wastebasket?

click on the file and do an APPLE DELETE.

simple.

The APPLE SHIFT DELETE to empty the trash...

All of this could be found in the HELP menu ;) ;)

* Drag and drop the file over the Trash icon in the dock

* Control + click on the file and select "Move to Trash"

* Select the file and go to the File menu and select "Move to Trash"

* Select the file and hold down Command + Delete

Thanks for the replies, if it is just a case of hitting apple & delete then something more serious must be fooked as that don't work within finder.
Delete key works, and the apple key works just not together in finder :(

It's Apple (also called Command or Cloverleaf) plus Backspace NOT delete :)

If you're new to the Mac, have a look over http://www.macosxhints.com/
