Impreza - New name?

"As for Subaru's compact Impreza model, execs say the vehicle will be freshened this August for the 2006 model year. A full model change occurs in 2007, and at that time it's likely the Impreza will get a new name more fitting with the rest of the vehicles in the lineup."

Yikes!

Yes current plan seems to be to introduce as smaller version of the impreza with 2l engine for the WRC, and for the 'current impreza' to develop into something outside of these restrictions, with 2.5 or even 3l turbocharged engine, sophisticated 4wd systems, wider track etc etc.

Is it me or doesn't it seam odd, that you would freshen a car only a year before it is due to be replaced. Surely as they have already done some significant work on the 2005 model year car, if they were going to do any freshening they should have done it to the 2005 car so as to recoup as much of development/tooling costs as poss.
