My revs keeping fluctutating rapidly to about 600 - 900rpm when it is idling, does anyone else have this problem or have had it, any help is greatly appreciated.

Fooked MAF sensor most likely cause!

MAF could be likely, have you noticed any fluctuation in fuel economy lately, perhaps more miles to a tank?
AFAIK the MAF degrades over time, so it's difficult to assess whether it's actually failed or not. If possible, the best idea is to try a new (or newer) one for a quick drive, and see if that helps. Failed MAF can cause serious damage is left unchecked for some time, if you can, get it swapped, particularly if your car is +3 years and on it's original sensor. |
Sounds like MAF.....................or Lambda :Suspiciou

no fluctuation over miles to the gallon, it doesnt happen all the time, just perhaps once or twice a day. Ok, i will have to look into it, thaniks

What an idiot, i missed the most important bit! It only does this when i turn my lights on, so is it a link with battery power or something? thanks again !

yes, when i first start the car it idles perfectly, as soon as i turn the lights on they drop and keep fluctuating. I drove around for a bit and then pulled over and turned m lights off and it idled normally.

i had a similar problem to u bud.
lucky for me my mate has the same spec scooby we tried switch ing the maf and we got no change then we changed the idle controll valve(solenoid that sits on top of the engine and is bolted to the inlet manifold(its a 2 part thing)) and the problem was cured!!!!!!! good luck bud hope u find the problem !!!!!!!!! maf sensor can be £100-200 depending on year of car and idle controll valve £280 but i got one from grade a subaru for £45-------RESULT |
sounds electrical to me, sounds like ya need to have ya alternator/battery checked out especially if you like ya tunes in the car, depending on the age of car the wiring between to components can deteriorate over time, if not maff sensor or lamda probe possible......hope this helps
