Owning a DBM MY99, I am suffering from stone chipping. I have got my touch up paint, and wondered if anyone could recommend any tips or tricks to make it look as professional as possible, rather than the usual blobby mess!

Cheers

Mr B

Might be worth a chat with Mark Underwood (the Wax Wizard) - he did mention that he was going to do some kind of repair kit - not sure of the details. Contact him at

The key to using the paint is to thin it first. Use celulose thinners to thin down well, and then apply several coats, just a small amount at a time. It's like painting anything else, several thin coats will always look better than 1 thick one.

Hi Mr Bain ..

Complain to your dealer, I did this weekend, at 7.5k it had "chips away" spend 1/2 a day doing the front and bonnet, made a fantastic job too, but at 15k and 1 year old it looks as bad again, it now has more stone damage than the wifes "round the clock" Ford. Last weekend I had to deal with RUST, yes RUST http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif it had rusted in a matter of 2 weeks from a stone chip above a front sidelamp ... I thought it had gavanised panels http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/confused.gif . Just to top it off the rear bumper is starting to change colour http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif

Mark Underwood's WW wax has slowed the amount of damage, how I don't know, it also helps as the wax never fills the chips with white wax so making it look even worse.

My dealer is looking into a warranty claim for the rear bumper however he is not too sure about the stone chips .... but he reckons he has had not one complaint about stone chips on 99 DBM painted cars http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/confused.gif so am I alone ??

I shall keep this BBS informed on how I get on ...... if I do ...

I've got a few too (MY 99 Sonic Blue).

My theory is if you allow a protective layer of dirt to form it cuts down the chips http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif ,

Plus if you're not washing it, you don't depress yourself each time when you find more chips!!

I was surprised to see my horn was rusting too (the one under the bonnet...)
