After waiting for the MY01 and being disappointed I am thinking of swopping my MY98 for an RB5 WR Sport thingy http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif. I have been in to see my dealer and he is looking for one for me low miles all the bits late T or V reg.

I was contemplating going grey but it seems a lot more hassle.

I had also been into my local EVO dealer but that a different story http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif.

Any RB5 owners got any advice ?

I saw the RB5 price thread and had a look on autotrader they seem to be between 20 and 25K still.

Also I am not looking to buy private unless you want my red MY98 turbo 9K miles http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

My local dealer Robinsons of Rochdale have 2 RB5's for sale, both 99 t reg, both one owners 1 with 6k and as brand new ( I nearly bought it but opted for a new STi instead ) price £21k and 2nd one done 20k and asking £19k, ok but not mint..Intermoto in Liverpool have a 1 owner 99 t reg RB5 with a prodrive kit on, 15k miles and asking £20k...!I bought an STi twice the car and brand new for £25k !

I have an RB5 and it's fantastic - not just performance and handling but looks too. The standard kits leaves nothing left to want for except maybe uprated brakes. The colour of the body (completely colour coded) and the wheels give a fairly low-key presence. I was originally looking at buying a standard car but really needed air con. The interior touches, superb driving lamps, quick-shift gear change and unique Prodrive wheels made the car excellent value for money. I think that the future values of the car will remain high as do other limited edition versions. The car is widely known to be a very competent package and was even 3rd in Evo's COTY last year, beaten by the 360 M Ferrari and Porsche GT3. I use mine everday and still get a buzz and still finding out new aspects of it's handling in various conditions. It's not outstandingly quick (compared to Sti's, P1's, etc..) but it's great fun getting the best from the car and it's limits are very high. I haven't come across a car yet that can stay with it across twisty roads and had a lot of fun playing with Porsches and Mercedes when I worked in Germany last year - regularly hit a fraction under 160 mph on the clock - very stable at these speeds. My insurance is less than £700 fully comp (33 years young) mpg averages 25 and it has never missed a beat. My advise, get one! I have some pictures of my car if you want an appetiser!

Go for the RB5. Drive an STI beforehand and you'll realise why EVO rated the RB5 ahead of the STI.

Mr Blitz it is a good price but I am not sure I could get use to LHD. I had a look and its a great looking car and has some great mods.

I must admit, i have always had a soft spot for the RB5. It will be an option when I sell my STI4... but then again I also like th B4 RSK Legacy too. All these new decisions to make now the 2001 looks like a strung out frog.

Cheers Chris, for posting the pictures.

Jase, the mudflaps are DIY - 4.5mm rubber sheet attached to plastic 'plates' that mount to the inner arch and sill trim. Had to drill a couple of extra holes to attach them. They are very flexible and give good protection. Couldn't find anything that I was completely happy with, hence DIY.

Chris, get an insurance quote first! RB5 is group 18. I was told that STi's were group 20 + loading (depending upon insurer and area).

The RB5 is a far better car on the road, with the small downside of an increase in road noise by the 17" rims. Handling feels better, although this may be down to the car being a 'V' plate compared to my old 'S' plate, and acceleration (particularly out of corners) severely improved http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif

I did not try out the standard RB5 car but went straight to the WRSport version so cannot comment on the two cars together. As mentioned above perhaps you do need to go out in an STi for a truer comparison of what's available for your money. We then come down to the old 'warranty' issue which we all have discussed to death before.

I've been on track with numerous scoobies, including a very varied assortment of STI's, and the RB5 is the best all round package. Just my (opinionated!) opinion........
