The architecture is beautiful - in additional the Gaudi designed stuff is wonderful.

- Bus Tours are excellent offering:

North Route (red bus) showing the National Palace, Olympic Stadium, Camp No, etc...
South Route (blue bus) showing the port area, Segrada De Familiar (gaudi cathedral), etc...
Forum Route (green) give ths a miss

Places to eat - the city is littered with small restaurants so you won't go short. Try the local Tapas dishes (3 euros). Beers cost betweeb 2 and 7 euros depending if you're in a trendy area or not

Head down to Port Vell ( the marina ) where there's Museums, cable cars, imax, restaurants, casino.

There's a main shopping area called Ramblas - be careful here - lots of pickpockets. Its quite tacky, although the Museum of Erotica is worth a look (!)

You can get the train to Port Adventura too - which is a Universal Studios fun park. Takes about an hour to get there.

It's brill.

We drove there for the day from Platja D'aro, parked underneath the Trade Center. I'd say do as many sights as you can, I thought they were all impressive. We're hoping to go back for a longer weekend sometime. Do Las Ramblas, eat tapas there, do the bus tour where you can hop on and off at will at the diferent places, and I'm not a big football fan, but enjoyed the tour of Camp Nou (Barcelonas ground..lol).

The port area is nice for a meal too....

Enjoy it, I'm sure you will..!

Nige.

Everything by Gaudi is worth seeing. Agree with the post above about the bus tours. There are two companies doing them, one of them has orange buses and the other has white buses with red, green and blue routes - this is the best. Tickets can be bought on the bus or at the office at the marina end of Las Ramblas. The forum route is crap, by all means go on it to see the city but don't bother getting off anywhere! I found the Olympic village horrendously boring and didn't even bother looking at the football stadium (yawn).

Both cathedrals are worth visiting but if I had to choose just one it would be the new cathedral they've been building for the last 1,000 years - it's incredible. The park designed by Gaudi on the hill above the city is worth going to (accessible from the tour bus) if the weather's nice, the view over the city is brilliant.

If you're going with a girlfriend/wife beware of shoe shops and handbag shops. There's one very dangerous road off Las Ramblas with about a hundred of these shops on. Also, drinks and food ordered on Las Ramblas cost ten times more than those sold 10 yards round the corner off the main road.

A taxi to and from the airport is much cheaper than I thought it would be but the train does take you into the centre of the city.

The top floor and roof of Gaudi's house (?) La Pedrera was absolutely stunning, that'd be my dream flat!!

Park Güell is always worth a visit as is the Nou Camp :)

My favourite city :luvlove:

The streets off Las Ramblas are well worth a wonder around for shopping & bars. Better quality & cheaper than the touristy ones on the main street.
The olympic village has some great seafood restaurants & bars. There is too much to see in one visit really. Use the underground to get around as it is cheap & punctual.
