Racing when the clutch is dipped!!

Went out for a run yesterday, car run fine no problems, got to my destination slowed down dipped the clutch ready to stop and the idle speed shot up to 2500-3000 rpm!!....Put the car in neutral and left it sitting and it started to pulse between 1500-2500 rpm....Dipped the clutch again to put in gear and the revs shot up again!!
Turned engine off left for 5 mins, started it back up and hey presto back to normal and has been since!
Anybody got any ideas on what caused this??

Mine does this, occasionally it's like someone's blipping the throttle constantly at tickover. My guess is the Idle Control Valve. I know mine's ropey since it started leaking coolant and I bypassed it. I'm just too lazy to fix it
