Which 2.2 stroker turbo?

Hi,

In the near future i'll be looking to take my car to the next step of tuning, it currently is modified as follows:

sti 6 wagon

hks 2.2 stroker
turbo dynamics md304 turbo
full magnex decat
sti 8 tmic
motorsport fuel pump
apexi power fc
hks evc 5 boost controller
helix group n clutch
fidanza flywheel

I'm looking for around 400bhp as my upper power limit. As part of the next steop I'm planning on fitting larger injectors, headers and up pipe, and a larger turbo.

I saw two mightily impressive garrett gt equipped cars at last saturday's surrey scoobies rolling road day, both were an awesome sight and produced massive figures, but understand the work involved in fitting this type of turbo is much more involved (both cars had the turbos turned for better flow).

Which bolt on turbo would be suited to a 2.2 car hoping to make 400bhp?

cheers Dave

you may be able to make that figure on a td05/06 20G running optimax and octane booster, but cant be certain on that. If i am wrong i am sure someone will correct me.

My 2 litre Sti v3 with 20g (and more) mods made 407 bhp.

I think my Ion P450 GT30/P20 hybrid (which I'm selling as I've just gone to rotated GT30R-12) would be nice as a bolt on a 2.2. The compressor trim I think would suit that quite well, it can run 30+ PSI if you like. You could probably get 400 BHP soon after it is fully spooled up and hold that power to the top. Would be very driveable if your gearbox would cope.

A 20G should get you around 400 on a 2.2 no problem. Make that number nearer 450 if you use Johns turbo :) Well suited to a 2.2 in my opinion.

Steve:

No! But just a lot of knowledgable people confirming it who were there looking at the screen during the run.
If I took the car back there today it would all be different/worse/better don't realy care.
The 5 runs were: 353/357/407/393/373. Have the last one on paper.
That's warmup x 2
Go for it x 3 and living proof that TMIC get hot at 1.4 bar.

Point is the 20g with other 'classic' mods made the 2 litre Sti an engine that makes the very high 300's even break the magic 400 (and I accept maybe just once in it's life).

I'm not a number chaser on RR's, just looking for a class win or 2 this year for the investment. :D

Graham.
