Which clutch?

Hi guys, clutch is about to give up on my MY98 turbo. Im only running standard power which i might increase slightly but just wondered what would be the best clutch in terms of longevity etc. without going OTT on a standard car. It gets driven hard!

Thanks

Luke

Speak with David at API.

Most of the clutches are made by the same company but branded differently

A Borg & Beck clutch is more than adequate for a standard car...Available at most motor factors for around £125

All covers are originally made by Exedy (then rebranded by many, such as AP), as they hold the patent for the 'pull' type pressure plates.

No point in shelling out for an expensive clutch on a car running standard power and torque IMO :)

Do Borg & Beck own Exedy?

No, they just use an Exedy pressure plate, like all the other 'manufacturers'

Not sure who makes the B&B friction plate though?

Thanks for the info, didn't think it would be worth getting carried away. Am I right in thinking it's worth changing the release arm for an STI item (saw it on a thread ages ago but i can't find it)

Yes, I would replace the release bearing, but I think an OE one will be fine.

The 3-piece Borg and Beck kit will be fine for light mods. Its only when you start changing the turbo etc that it would be worthwhile getting an uprated one.

The release bearing supplied in that kit will be fine.
