Afterburner Vortex and MOT emissions?
Hi folks
I am looking at purchasing an Afterburner Vortex backbox and de-cat centre section for my 99 import STi My question is will this set up cause any issues with MOT emissions? Cheers Stooboy |
Decat might, but probably not as i think you'll still have one cat in the downpipe.
Correct me if I'm wrong though! Iain |
...correct.
Will fail if you remove both cats. |
Ok thanks

AFAIK MY99 STi's don't have a centre cat anyway just a resonator box, my old type r did.
Fitted a 3" straight through centre and new backbox, passed the MOT no problems. |
Oh ok. So is it worth buying the Afterburner de-cat centre section if my car already has no cat in the center section. Surley it wont be any different or are these aftermarket jobbies more free flowing?
Whats a resinator box, will the Afterburner de-cat centre section not have this therefore have better perfomance? Thanks dont want to spend approx £100 for nothing |
Resonator box cuts down on the noise from the exhaust. I suggest you try just backbox first then if it isnt loud enough buy the straight through de-cat section for your aural pleasure.

Ok cool. Like it loud anyway to be honest! I miss the loud burble from my old scoob with Blitz Nur spec!
Mite as well go for both Back box and centre. Thanks |

Mite as well go for both Back box and centre. Thanks I found that to make the vortex come alive it needed the non-resonated centre section, but its all down to your own taste. I have just had a full de-cat which has reduced slightly the motorway drone which is the noise that is the most anonying IMO. |
