Directors Cuts

whats your favourite directors cut, and did you enjoy it more than the theatrical release?

For me it has to be Aliens.

Markus 16 March 2005 04:14 PM

I think Aliens is pretty high on the list.

DC of Lock Stock is pretty good too

Terminator 2, that's another good one.

Petem95 16 March 2005 04:18 PM

The LOTR's extended edition (essentially the directors cut) of ROTK is excellent - I cant believe some of the scenes were cut from the cinema release altogether.

Aliens SE is excellent - watching that the other night, and there are few other actions films which live upto the standard of that. Everything is good - brilliant script - love Hudson's constant sarcastic worried comments once on LB45! Also great that its all real sets and models, instead of stupid blatent-CGI everything like you get now.

TheBigMan 16 March 2005 04:22 PM

The Butterfly Effect.

dome 16 March 2005 04:56 PM

Yep, Butterfly Effect for me too. The Directors cut ending is pretty mindblowing, the cinematic one far too tame in comparison.

Never saw the cinematic ending.....What happened??

InvisibleMan 16 March 2005 05:05 PM

BladeRunner

any orginal cut not 'bruckheimer cut'...

SirFozzalot 16 March 2005 05:13 PM

Aliens was the one that sprung to my mind! :)

Frosty The Snowman 16 March 2005 05:29 PM

Almost Famous has a much better and longer directors cut.

Wasn't it LV421? ;)

Have to agree though. Great version.

brickboy 16 March 2005 05:35 PM

Have to say the Blade Runner DC didn't do it for me -- call me a philistine but I liked the Philip Marlowe-style voiceover :)

Aliens DC -- top job. Especially the auto-sentry guns. Me likee :D

What was the one James Cameron did after Aliens? The underwater one (not Titanic ;)). There's a DC of that, is it any good, anyone?

As 16VMark said, The Abyss, and it transforms the film completely. You haven't really seen this film if you haven't seen the DC. The theatrical was a great film, until you realise what was missing. Heaven only knows why it was cut so heavily.

Agree with Aliens, and all 3 LOTR films. Although I thought the extra bits added more to the 1st 2 than ROTK. I'd have loved to see more of the combat with the army of the dead, and of course, the scouring should have been included.

jackies 16 March 2005 06:16 PM

The making of the Abyss was amazing to watch - what they all went through filming in this huge dark tank with all the electrical equipment - scary for the crew and the actors. James Cameron is a genious!!

stormyuklondon1 16 March 2005 07:18 PM

T4molie 17 March 2005 12:36 PM

Nimbus 20 March 2005 10:36 AM
