Bridge stone re 070 and road noise

I have recently fitted a set of bridgestone re 070 to my WRX 03 together with a set of nre 7.5" rims i had re050 tyres previously the new re070 grip well but they do seem to make the car tramline and do seem noisy whatever the road surface has anyone else experienced this?

Yes on all counts - they hold the road, they tramline and they are noisey
(and they are 'exciting' in the damp)
Not sure if I'd buy them again

Yep - same here - had a set fitted to 03 WRX 5Dr, very first thing I noticed as I pulled away was the rumble - really noisy tyres.

It took at least 500 miles to bed them in, it was like driving on marbles for the first few hundred - really bad tramline/camber concious

They've now done approx 1000 miles - grip like hell, wet & dry, but still not happy with the noise, still tramline & the ride has gone harder too.

Mind you they weigh a ton, and are pretty solid rubber! Should take some wearing out!

Wondering if playing with the PSI would alter anything........??

de-cat then you can't hear the tyres ;) I've always loved the 70's but must admit mine felt a little nervous going over the cat and fiddle last saturday night (night rally ;)). suppose there was snow at the edge of the road though so wasn't pushing it. really :)

The RE070's are the nuts, mine are now scuffed in and very grippy. They also look very cool. Steering feedback it spot on, much better than other makes soft sidewall tyres.

Hi Guys

Would be interested to hear how the RE070s compare with the RE050s (got an MY04 WRX) in terms of steering feel, feedback grip etc. Have always thought that the RE050s are a bit noisy. Are the 070s worse?

Thanks

Yes these tyres are noisy, couple of reasons, they are 225, they are rock solid as they have a reinforced sidewall, they tramline due to the size and tread pattern, they are very good in both wet and dry conditions, but be warned that they can be a bit "interesting" on greasy surfaces.
They are hard wearing and dont try to be a hero when these tyres are cold, they need heat putting into them to get them sticky for your grip.
Would i have another set? yep! :D

so to all who have had 050 and then 070 (or the otherway round) which would you go for.
difficult question, different for each driver but would like your personnal views.

Dr Hu 23 May 2005 08:42 PM

I think I'd go back to the 050 - mainly because of the roadnoise......

dr hu
is the wet handling as bad as people say. i can imagine the road noise is up due to the soild(ish) outer edge. i would of thought this a bonus if it decreases wear on the shoulder. but i can understand that this could cause a problem in the wet due to less grooves to let the water out.

Nothing wrong with the wet handling- they can be a little edgey in the damp though.

gwtting some fitted today so i will post any comments if anyone is interested.

might be an idea to have comments threads on each set of tyre that we can add remarks to. save a lot of time with repeated posts and it would be easy to just check through one or two threads rather than continual searches. would also hit the server less.

They (070's) grip like buggery once worn in (they take a fair few miles). Not really had any probs in the wet.

The first thing that struck me as I drove away after having them fitted was the hugely increased NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) compared to the standard bridgstones.

Yes I like the grip, no I dont like the noise.

Be careful on them for the first few hundred miles, they were like driving on marbles for ages - really bad tramlining and so, so skittish, but they DO settle down - I hated them for the first week - really hated them! OK now though:)
